When I hit a rut, I try the following:

Try a new (alternate) tuning.

Re-learn a song I wrote or play in a different tuning, time signature or style.

If it was played "normal/Spanish" style, play the song with a slide...or vice-versa--play it "normal" if I usually play slide.

Quit using a pick.

Use a different kind of pick (different style or thickness, try a thumb pick or finger picks, etc.).

Don't use my pedals...or use a pedal I normally don't use on that song.
