That's the funny thing about time. Nixon was still president and the Viet Nam war was still going on when I was born, yet a lot of times I feel like I'm still 18 or 21 mentally. Well, at least I'm not as naive and prone to people's B.S. I guess part of me never grew up. :P I never lost my youthful enthusiasm with music. I still remember the time when I started, it seems more like 10 or 15 years ago, rather than 25. I remember being 16 and starting out and seeing people at that point who have been playing for 20 or 25 years then (which would be like you guys who started in the 60's) and thinking "Wow, those guys have been at it a long time, they probably can play anything." When you get to this point, now it really doesn't seem that long. I suppose kids that are starting out now might think the same thing about even someone like me, which would be weird, since I don't think I'm some sort of maestro. I have noticed that I can play things that I couldn't years ago from time to time, so I guess that's what experience is. Then again, you never stop learning.

I remember the Peavey Mega Bass. I played through one once when this guy had one for sale. Nice amp, but I didn't wind up getting it. I loved the 18" and 2x10" cab, too. That has been one of my favorite speaker set ups, besides 2x15"s. I'll bet that rig will last for a long time, unless that kid destroys it. Peaveys are like that.

I know, those links are addicting. I've spent hours perusing that website. It has all kinds of goodies on there, plus the sound samples are a plus. The link to the Sixties City is correct, it could be some sort of setting with your computer. I had that issue with that site a few years ago with some annoying Microsoft setting. Maybe they think it has a virus on it or something. It uses Java, so that could be an issue. I never got a virus from it anytime I went there, so I don't know. It's based in the UK, so maybe there's some international conspiracy going on. :P Now that I think about it, I think I had to go into the Data Execution Prevention (otherwise know as I'm a Mommy-coddling pain in the arse) settings and mess with that. It was annoying, indeed.

First bass rig was a early 70's Fender Musicmaster coupled with a 1972 Fender Bassman Ten amp. That was in 1990.

I found out rather quickly that I was a terrible bassist, but it was fun, and I had a rig available when a bassist showed up.

Sold both of those instruments (at different times), but a friend later gave me a 1973/4/5 (don't know which) Ampeg Big Stud Bass. It sounds cool, looks cool and came at the right price (free!)...

...And while I've improved since that first experience, I'm still a pretty poor bassist overall.

Oh, well, I'll just stick to guitar, vocals and harmonica.

Coral is actually Danelectro, and yes, they made the sitar thing.

Coral sitars sported drone strings.

A notable Coral player is Steve Howe from the progressive rock group YES.

You can hear Steve playing his Coral sitar on Siberian Khatru from the band's Close To The Edge album, released a couple of months after my birth in April 3th, 1972.

Robert Smith of the Cure has a vintage Coral Sitar that he uses on some of their songs-and with great effect such as "If only Tonight We Could Dream" from the Kiss Me,Kiss Me,Kiss Me album.Joe South used one in "The Games People Play" and the Boxtops used one in "Cry Like A Baby" and The Lemon Pipers used one in their one hit "Green Tambourine".You can pick them up from time to time advertised in Vintage Guitar Magazine for around the $3,000-$3,500 price range which isn't bad for such a unique guitar-especially from that era.

The Coral Sitar had 19 strings-6 playing strings tuned the same as a 6 string guitar and 13 drone strings that were tuned to every natural note and sharp and flat of an octave so that as in an actual Indian Sitar they would vibrate sympathetically when the corresponding note was played on the guitar strings.

BTW: Jerry Jones is still making replicas as far as I know and they cost about the same as an American Standard Strat.

I never heard of this "Kilowatt" amp. I tried to look it up, but all that came up was somebody selling a schematic for it and something mentioned on a couple of forums. What was this thing about?

I remember Rogue had a version of the sitar. I don't know if they still do. I haven't looked through Musician's Friend in ages. Who knows if it's crap or not?

Jerry Jones retired now, according to his website, and is selling off all of their stuff. There might be some left, though.

If I remember, the Coral Kilowatt was a thousand watt amp, with two 8X10 cabs. I was never able to see one, so I was just going by an ad I saw in a magazine back then. A friend was using a Coral bass, through a National 2X15 amp at that time.

Wow that bass is something else-I never knew that Danelectro's Coral division made a bass, that is the first one that I've ever seen.I don't think that they are even listed in the Vintage Guitar Magazine Price Guide. Is that old beauty yours Chromeface? If so you are really lucky, she looks like she has had a very pampered life.

Wow, that's one hell of a rig, especially for the 60's. I suppose it didn't live up to expectations, hence it's obscurity I suppose. When I typed the name into search, the only pictures that came up for me was the snake and random pictures of hot tubs, for some odd reason.

No, Ron's Coral bass was a solid body, more along the lines of the Hagstom Basses at the time. He bought it used, and it had a nasty chunk out of the fretboard. The body was in good shape though, and it was a good playing bass.

My first bass was an Aria Mosrite copy that had a huge crack going down the back of the body, starting at the neck joint. I traded my Cort guitar for it.

First amp was one of those tiny Crate bass amps, bought brand new.

My first Fender was a JP90(black, with cockroach pickguard).

I just realised you mentioned this. I remember seeing that guitar in the "Fascination Street" video, along with Robert's Fender VI that Simon had. It was that song that turned me on to the band and they're actually one of my main influences. I grew up in a suburb in Florida, so most of the music around at the time in the late 80's was cheesy hair metal, which did nothing for me, to be honest.
