The hybrid tabs with the sheet music included are the best.

I love tab. My memory is about like Jim in the old show Taxi for old guys who remember that one. Lots and lots of chemo under the bridge here a few years ago. I can jam by ear and improvise by ear, but if you're asking me to remember and play a song without notes, impossible due to the recall damage. I'm amazed by what a lot of people can do by memory. I also read music and also play that way, but at a basic level. I can play open position notes from classical music notation, but how are you going to play "You Done Lost Your Good Thing Now" by BB King and play quickly based on classical music notation. Tab is made for the guitar, not piano like the classial method of notation. Tabs got the frets, bends and all that we need.

I personally don't use anything besides tab.
It may be frowned upon but I personally don't see anything wrong with it... :?

I don't see anything wrong with any method someone uses to learn a piece of music. It's about the destination, not the path taken.
