The only difference is the pickups.

These basses were featured with Duncan Designed pickups previously. Fender replaced them with their own designed units.

Hmm, too bad--I Iike the Duncans--but I don't like the neck that keeps warping.

You can upgrade the stock pickups to real Duncans if you're not satisfied with them.

Of course, but given the price of one with Duncans and one without plus the price of the Dncans--you could come out behind.

My main hope was that the neck issues I've seen on one in stores and read about all over the internet (including here) would be addressed.

Then I would probably get one.

Okay my suggestion is a fretless Squier WM or CV J-Bass with a neck that doesn't warp so easily.
Maybe with a wood fretboard.
