Hey all,

Those of you looking for unique and affordable additions to your collection will be happy to hear about our new fleet of Squier Vintage Modified guitars and basses. They have all the character and attitude of our original Fender models, with some updated specs that give them a hot-rodded feel.

Check out our latest takes on the Cabronita series, the Squier Vintage Modified Cabronita Telecaster and Squier Vintage Modified Cabronita Precision Bass. The Squier Vintage Modified Cabronita Tele with Bigsby delivers just as much fire as the original, bolstered by a Fideli’Tron humbucking pickup at the neck, a single-coil pickup at the bridge and a Bigsby®-licensed B50 vibrato tailpiece.

We’ve also rolled out enhanced versions of some classic basses, including a five-string version of our Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass and a retro-fied Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass ’77.

Take a look at the rest of the Squier Vintage Modified series and give us your feedback!

Fender hits the sweet spot again, lol. Great, affordable, it doesn't get better than that. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the info!

Did a 5-string version of the single-humbucker-equipped Jaguar Bass Special HB is also in the works?

Still waiting on a v-neck for the Classic Vibes '50 Stratocaster.

There's no five-string version for the VM '77 Jazz yet.

Ditto for southpaw bassists.

Features like the 4-bolt neck attachment and the bridge pickup placement are not period-correct for a '77.

A '77 Jazz should have a bullet truss rod and a tugbar placed behind the neck pickup.

V neck a la Clapton?

THAT neck, contractually, is likely reserved to the Clapton series of guitars. I would be satisfied with the same neck carve they use for the 50's Roadworn series. From those I've played, it didn't seem to be as 'fat' as the standard V-neck, but not as sleek at the Clapton. The modern C neck on the Classic Vibe '50 is definitely not classic vibe directed. It's economies of scale directed.

Yes, I happen to notice these. Serious G.A.S. with the fretless P-Bass and the Bass VI models. I've wanted a fretless P-Bass for years, as well as a Bass VI, and now it's a chance to get one that's affordable for my broke arse. I know they're not top of the line US models, but they sounded good enough for me and there's always the ability to mod, if necessary. I just hope you keep them in production for another year or two until I get some money and debt paid off some more.

But it's a nice nod to the actual Black Strat neck! :P

This is a nod to the #1. Whether or not it was really #1 is a matter of argument. Current writings on the subject suggest that. I own The Black Strat repro and the neck is hardly similar to what is on the Squier guitar pictured here.

The Christmascaster looks similar except for the neck shape, pickups and circuitry :|

Swap out the scratchplate on a white Clapton and you're done. A be
tter deal than swapping out the neck on a Squier.

So what is different about the new VM fretless J Bass compared to the previous version?

I was wondering that myself. I didn't notice anything new.
