I saw him in the late 80s or early 1990s, wasn't really familiar with his music so I just turned up expecting an evening of run of the mill blues. And he just blew the roof off the theatre. I was shellshocked. The man put his heart and soul into every note he played, it was just utterly vicious raw music.

Most musical concert: Chicago at Saratoga, NY in the mid/late 70's before Terry Kath died. They were incredible! They played everything and their horn section was legendary. Terry Kath rocked out on a beatup Telecaster covered in decals and I think he had an SG and a hollow body electric, if I remember right... It is so sad to see Chicago today. The horn section and Robert Lamm are the only members left. Sadly, they are no longer the same.

Most mind blowing, pyrotechnic, LOUDEST concert: Triumph in late 1984 in Buffalo, NY. They played in the old "Aud" (Buffalo Sabres old NHL hockey arena), and they blew the freakin' roof off the place! They had giant stacks of Marshalls, and they used bombs, flashpots, lasers, flame throwers, etc... for pyrotechnics. Who knew that 3 guys could rock out like that, complete with screaming high vocals and unbelievable guitar skills? Highlight of the show: Rik Emmett coming out on stage solo, with nothing more than an acoustic guitar and a stool. He sat down on the stool, and launched into the beautiful classical piece "Midsummer Night's Daydream", and blew everyone's mind. You sat there thinking, "OMG... This guy was just running around on stage like a madman, sliding on his knees, doing the most vicious heavy metal licks, dive bombs, fretboard tapping, etc... and here he is playing the most incredible classic guitar!".

Long story short... Out of all the concerts I have seen, these two stick in my mind.

it's fun reading through all of the posts. I, like many others, have too many bests to list and I can't remember which ones I listed on other similar threads in the past. I'll pick 1 from the recent past 2009 or 2010 at the Riviera, Chicago: Alkaline Trio
"She Lied to the FBI" Guitar Center Sessions

I would have to say Molly Hatchet. Why? Stage presence and musicianship. The guitarists are incredible, they are also the loudest band Ive ever seen live. After their shows, they come out for a meet and greet and sign t-shirts, Ive seen them 3 times and got to go on the bus and talk to them for 5 minutes and get autographs. They seem really down to earth. Danny Joe Brown ( lead singer) died a few years ago. Shook everyone hand, was awesome!!!!!! http://youtu.be/wtC7i4KMRgo

Anyone who says "x is the loudest show I've ever been to!" has never been to a Lightning Bolt show. My buddy is partially deaf ion his right ear because he forgot to wear protection to a basement show of theirs.

(they also happen to be one of the best live acts I've ever seen, aside from being absurdly loud)

Molly Hatchet? Yup... I've seen them too. Awesome band! They sort of took the reigns from Skynyrd after the plane crash, and rocked out for a number of years before the famed "southern rock" genre kind of fizzled out.

Now, all these decades later? Molly Hatchet's original drummer (Bruce Crump) lives right here in Richmond, VA (suburbs - Midlothian,VA). He became a Baptist minister here in town and also gives private drum lessons on the side. Seriously... He's just a regular guy nowadays and very down to earth. I mean, you can go over to his house, ring the doorbell, and say, "Hey Bruce, how ya doing?" You know?

Bruce & E-Street on 11-3-12 at Louisville, KY. The wife and I were in the winning batch of the GA ticket lottery and ended up right infront of Nils! They all put on a great show coming off the heels of the Sandy benefit we watched on tv the night before. Running around, crowd surfing, and he layed right next to my wife and was singing to the gal next to her. This show has raised the bar for concert going for me.

Gorguts last night was pretty f*cking insane. The fact that they were able to play the music faithfully to the recordings is impressive on it's own.

They played this... THING... Exactly as it sounds here (none of that is "jamming" or random noise, it's a very carefully composed piece)

so uh

ya
