Stevie Ray Vaughan / Jeff Beck / Jeff Healey - Toronto 1989
Eric Clapton / Roger Waters (Pros and Cons) - Toronto 1984
The Who (Farewell) - Toronto 1982

My highlights though at the end of the day for the actual concert intimacy have to be Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers at Kingswood in Toronto (smaller outdoor venue), and Colin James at the University of Guelph... sometimes the connection with big artists at smaller venues is what sticks.

I have a fairly small resumee but I have to say that one of the best venues I've seen live was at Marés Vivas (a festival in my hometown in Portugal)

Wolfmother (I had never heard of them and actually enjoyed)
Kaiser Cheifs are really something with their live acts.
Franz Ferdinand were just on the spot with their act
We had Billy Idol there. Not my cup of tea but since i paid the ticket
And then there was Gogol Bordello. Loud, dirty and mean gypsy punk (or whatever the hell they do) but hey. Everyone in the crowd was jumping and screaming along. It was quite something 8)
The Hives were also there they had a teenager play the bass in one of their songs. It was a cool show and stuff but there's something about them that I can't bring myself to like.

But if I really had to pick I'd go with Miguel Araújo (portuguese artist he's really something either solo or with his band "Os Azeitonas"). The man gave a terrific show live at one of Oporto's most iconic spaces. I literally sang every tune he played and enjoyed every moment of it. :D

Eggs Zachary. What more is there to say?

Pink Floyd, June 28, 1994. The Division Bell Tour (Pulse), Commonwealth Stadium.
Since that night I have been able to honestly say that I can die in peace now because I have seen the mighty Floyd in concert. There are groups and then there is Pink Floyd.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

June 10, 1994 Pink Floyd Yankee Stadium....Amazing show in the house that Ruth built!
June 16 1991 grateful Dead Giants Stadium...Amazing night, band was on it...Little Feat opened up, greats floor seats with a great group of friends...magic was in the air.
June 9th 2003 Neil Young & Crazy Horse , Tampa. Greendale tour...All new music with a stage show...sort of a rock/theater thing. Very different kind of show, I enjoyed it.
August 1oth 2006 Steely Dan Ford ampitheater Tampa....Had lawn seats, just relaxin with the Dan, Michael Mcdonald was on this tour too....gotta love that Pretzel Logic!

Saw Roger Water The Wall twice - self explanatory

Considering i've only been to a few, it's probably a bit naive for me to say.

But i'd have to go with DZ deathrays, on the 11th of march this year. I had already seen about 5 other bands before hand at that festival, nearly died in violent sohos pit beforehand. It was 38 C that day too, so I was so #$@*&!% dehydrated, everyone was sweating like they'd jumped into a river, it stank like all hell, and like I said, i nearly died in the prior bands pit. And, it's fair enough to say that I neraly died in DZ's pit too. I lost my shoe for about 3 songs, until some dude held it up.

Aha, fun. I'm sure I will go to a gig that'll make that seem like total sh1t, but it was a good experience, especially for one of my first moshing experiences too.

I been back stage for some big shows, but the best was Jimi Hendrix, July 5, 1970. Miami. JMH was on top of his music that night. Seeing him as close as I was, not knowing in mid September, he'd be gone. RIP JMH.

That's an easy one for me. KORN, last year.

It's hard to explain without sounding like a name dropper. But here goes. Fieldy was one if my best friends in high school. We hung out every day. He always knew he was going to be a successful musician even back then. 100% driven and determined. A few years after high school, Jon and Head were roommates of mine.

Fast forward to last year. To see the guys still going strong and putting on a massively heavy show just makes me feel good to see. No band can top how I feel when I watch them live. I'm always so proud of all of them. The energy they create live is very unique. 20-years and they've still got it.

Of course, my answer may be topped soon. This year Head is back in the band and I can't wait to see it. Might have to make a trip to Bakersfield for this one.

@ Minnesotastrats:

Well, as I said, I don't remember much of it at all. In '65 I was too young, too short and too far back to really see anything. The sound system was crap and all I really remember was them singing 'I wanna hold your hand...' and all the screaming teenaged girls.

Ah yes... Wings Over America... June 4, 1976 - St. Paul Civic Center.

I was home on leave from the NAVY and the concert promoter I'd worked for in college asked if I wanted to do backstage security for the show. I remember the date because it was my best friend's birthday and we had already made plans. The promoter told me to bring him along.

I wasn't much of a Wings fan, but got to meet the band, Sir Paul & Linda during soundchecks and later we had dinner with them backstage before the show. It was a good show, but walked away still not much of a Wings fan. Still, my buddy was thrilled, I got to meet one of the Fab Four (met George and Ringo later), and had some extra jingle in my pocket to enjoy the rest of my leave.

cheers!

his "On an island" cd,second half was all pink floyd, wonderful.
Also lucky enough to see Rory Gallagher in Glasgow in the 80,s.
live in the apollo was the place to see bands.

Garbage in 1996, when Shirley rocked it like this:

#threadwinner
#epicwinning

; )

Seriously though...too many to pick one. Santana in 1998 when Supernatural was huge. Smashing Pumpkins and Slash on same night in 2010. Iron & Wine, Jack White, and the Pixies on same night in 2011. The Black Keys in 2011 right after they won their first grammys. Allman Bros in 1994. ZZ Top in 1993.

I've seen Santana about 6 times.

Her wanna, I saw korn a few years back, it was an awesome show. I was really into that when I was about 16...not really any more, but the show was cool for two reasons- first of all, it was Korn, one of my favorite bands when I was younger, and 2 - HELLYEAH opened for them. so I got to see Vinnie Paul play live. scratch one off the bucket list. :) and when he looked at me, i nodded, and he winked and gave me a thumbs up. okay, i'll try to stop smiling like a little fanboy now.

:D

nope, can't help it. it was awesome.

I have seen so many great concerts over the years that I'd be hard pressed to find a favourite. I saw Rory Gallagher in the early 70s and was second row front and center,as expected it was incredible. In the mid 70s I was lucky enough to be front and center to see Howlin' Wolf and Willie Dixon, they were both huge heroes of mine and I actually walked past all security-and wasn't stopped or challenged-and I sat and talked to him during his entire "Half-time" break.I asked him if he ever met my other hero Jimi Hendrix-he had- and asked him how he liked Jimi's version of his own Hoochie Coochie Man he said he was very impressed by it.I also asked him what Jimi was like he answered "Man he was a strange cat...but he was cool."

Also in the mid 70s I saw an incredible double bill of Pat Metheny and Roy Buchannan and as a matter of fact one of my buddies who was in charge of getting hold of gear for Roy to use(apparently he used to rent gear when he travelled)he asked me if I would lend Roy my brand new Peavey Deuce which was the first one in the province. Knowing that Roy was inclined to not be the gentlest person with gear,I declined ,which turned out to be the right decision,he blew up two Fender Twins that night.

I saw Canadian rock stars Chilliwack a few times regrettably not after my friend and fellow Newfoundlander Brian "Loud" McCleod joined.

Just 2 months before his untimely death,SRV played here and I was literally close enough to grab his Clyde McCoy wah and see every grimace and drop of sweat on his face. Two more great artists round out my list of fabulous concerts. I saw Steve Earle shortly after the release of Copperhead Road where he played that album and Guitar Town in their entirety and I was lucky enough to see Marty Stuart and The Fabulous Superlatives twice and meet them and get my 50th Ann. Strat and one of my Teles autographed.

Anyway that's it for concerts, but to pick a favourite would be impossible because they were all just superb.

My club band has a residency at a hotel just outside Newcastle, Hilton Valentine used to turn up every night to watch. He looked like an elderly Nigel Tufnel, leather trousers, must have been well into his 60s but always had a couple of geordie girls in tow. He'd always get a table right in front of me, I think he was watching and stealing riffs.
