+1000!

I remember the battle between the investors and the county zoning commission back in the '70s just to get the sonofabitch built!

Around 1974 at the Cow Palace, South San Francisco, CA.

Pink Floyd...woo woo! Their first set was some old stuff and new stuff from the yet to be released "Wish You Were Here". The second set was the entire "Dark Side of the Moon" album.

The light show and playing was perfect. Some artists are not consistent in studio and live performances. These guys and girl singers improved on what's on the album...did not think that was even possible. The sax solo on Money was fantastic & he was a hired hand.

Zz top and Aerosmith in 1976 at three rivers stadium in pgh pa. They had cows and rattle snakes and old trucks on stage. It was the first time I saw zz top and they were fantastic. That was before the beards.

The most unique for me was The Yardbirds with Jimmy Page, opening act The James Gang with Joe Walsh, at a small Hullabaloo Club about '67 or '68.

Next was Pink Floyd at a college auditorium, probably '69.

There were some concerts where Duane Allman showed up ... did you happen to catch one of those magical shows?

The last concert I went to was at the Target Center in St. Paul, MN, with my son to see AC/DC during the first leg of their Black Ice Tour. That was a hell of a concert and I'd go again tomorrow.

But among my most memorable shows would have to be:

1968 - Booker T & The MGs at the Iowa State student union ballroom. Here were Booker T, Donald Dunn and Steve Cropper in their finest form and apparently knobody had a clue who the heck they were. I was standing about 6' away from Steve Cropper for the whole show and I could tell they weren't really digging playing for maybe 40 people. They gave everyone their money's worth and couldn't get out of there fast enough.

1982 - The Ventures at Becker's Supper Club, Fergus Falls, MN. The Ventures were on a tour to promote their movie which was due out very soon to celebrate their 25th anniversary or some such. The guys were not getting along at the time and Bob Bogle was not there, having been replaced by someone else who was younger and very good - they said at the start of the show that Bob had broken his leg, but I found out later, from their official autobiographer, that it was not true.

Nokie Edwards was superb, played a number of different guitars; Mel Taylor was there on drums and Don Wilson was rocking on rhythm guitar, taking an occasional lead. It was up close and personal, probably only 60 people in the club and I'd gotten there early and had a ringside seat, not 12' away from Nokie. They played two good sets and headed for their tour bus.

I went outside and knocked on the door of the bus and they let me in. I described myself as a true blue Ventures fan and showed them a stack of almost 20 vinyl LPs. Those three guys signed each and every one of those albums and I still have them today. Yes, it would have been nice if Bob had been there, too, but that's life.

True to the struggles those guys went through, with life and each other, that movie was never released to my knowledge.

Too hard to choose just one...

The first one that comes to mind would be the original Allman Brothers Band at a roadhouse outside of Jacksonville around '69/'70 about a week before Idlewild South was released. Why? - their music/sounds just blew me away.

Another great time was seeing the Paul Butterfield Blues Band with Elvin Bishop & Mike Bloomfield trading off riffage as the whole band just tore it up in Atlanta.

I saw Alabama with my dad and sister in 1984 at a free state fair show. Even by then, they must have had 20 huge songs. We caught the last five of them.

Well since some people are also listing their first concerts, in Aug. '65 I was almost 12 and we had just moved back to the US from Europe. A guy in my Dad's office gave him 4 tix to see the Beatles at the old Metropolitan Stadium in Minneapolis.

My Dad had no interest and wasn't going to use them. But my older sister pleaded with him to let us go. He wouldn't let us go alone, so my sister went next door and invited the 18 y.o. neighbor who babysat for us and he finally agreed. But while I still have the stub, I honestly don't remember much except all the screaming girls.

My first real concert was again at Mets Stadium in '67 where I saw the Animals, the Jefferson Airplane and the Strawberry Alarm Clock all on one bill! That was a killer show !

cheers!

There were so many back in the 70s is so hard to pick one. Jethro Tull was always a favorite, Thin Lizzy, Rainbow, ELP, ELO, Lynard Skinard, was great then. Pink Floyd, the Stones. How do you pick one. This list can go on forever The 60s and 70s were great for music. Ten Years After. David Bowie, the Who CSNY, but the one I will never forget was Willie Dixon in a small night club in Pgh.
Here one I forgot Edger Winter and Rick Derringer in a biker bar.

Magic indeed!

I saw Duane perform twice -- once in his ABB precursor, Hourglass. Even then it was obvious that he'd be a force to be reckoned with and emulated.

The Beatles in '65 way cool! They got in trouble with the Minneapolis Police for having under age girls in their hotel room. Paul vowed to never return to Minnesota, but he did with Wings. I have some old footage from KSTP with interviews with the cops and the fab four somewhere.

Unfortunately no. When I really think about it Duane Allman has been the only one that could really kick Eric in $@! and make him go...those two paired together were simply the best, they really inspired each other and pushed each other, but in a good way.
