If your playing for your high school, dont play rush, since no one would like them or appreciate who they are, but then again, every one has different taste, so play what you play best. if it were me, i would play i wanna be sedated by the ramones, only because that was the first song i played at my first real gig, so i know it best.

For a special treat you should play some Slayer. You'll be remembered for sure, better or worse.

Not so necessarily playing for an actual talent show as it is much acts...and besides...kind of a joke topic when you look at it the right way.

And I just wanted to know what the public thought.

Fixed that.

And actually I think I'll do that at some point in my high school career. JUST SO I could remembered as the idiot who played Slayer for a high school "Lollapalooza" (as they call it at my school. I'm a hillbilly.)

I would just play something I really know. I would recomend something like nirvana or The strokes. But I would like someone to try playing Led Zepellin. But that's just me.

Thats a good point, but I would think that winning it wouldn't be the biggest priority. I am a competitive person, but I would never compromise what I like to play to win a talent show. Besides I play better when I like what I'm playing. :D

Muse stuff is fun to play, the crowd usually gets into it as well as with some Red Hot Chili Peppers songs.

I would have played Cliffs of Dover, by Eric Johnson. I think a jury would've been blown away by a good interpretation.

Yeah, like I'd ever manage a single lick of it :P

I'm not sure if anyone posted this already, but if it's truly a talent show, you should play something you wrote.

Talent shows are tough. You want to go off on this tangent and show your talent but you need to stick with something that people know and will enjoy.

For example, I played solo acoustic at my senior talent show because I had no band. It's possible to satisfy the audience without dumbing it down. I played Wonderwall by Oasis. The easiest song on the face of the earth.

BUT I added an intro, where I got to throw some riffs from Little Wing by Hendrix, and I added my own solo in the middle of Wonderwall. It wasn't really a boring performance at all, and people were satisfied considering they knew the song I was playing. Here is the video:
