Has anyone else noticed that the smilies and other things are broken/missing? I noticed this first on Friday. I don't think it is my computer as all the other forums I frequent are fine.

Bill...yes I noticed it too, and your right I went to another forum and did not have the problem. Just have little '"x" boxes.

I think Brad and Co. have some cleaning up to do.

Hopefully he has added it to his "to do" list.

I think they are being overwhelmed by all the spam lately. It's bound to affect things.

I was able to post pics, and I can see some avatars, but not all. I think the google bot, msnbc bot, and others are causing some real havoc!

Same symptoms here......I thought it was a problem at my end.

Yeah, I'm having issues, too. I thought it was some issue I had with Chrome, or whatever. I guess then it's the site. You know, there are other problems with this site. I could never fully edit my profile, especially location.

I didn't have the smilies problem but the colour boxes on the right of the post dialog box were quite large a few days ago. Now they're gone as is the Fender banner across the top of the page and I now have the smilies issue. The post dialog box now fills the screen as well.

There goes the neighborhood! (insert rolling eyes here)

Either that, or they started to shut some things down to try to keep the bots out??? Don't know, but hope it all can get ironed out soon.

Out of curiosity, what other forums do you guys frequent? Also do you keep your usename the same on other sites. Many of you here have been great for information, and sharing some really cool stuff, it would be nice to know where else to continue sharing with everyone without all the excessive spam shite thats been flooding the board lately.

I have been a member of quite a number of boards over the past 16 or 17 years or so. Some of them were small and private, by invitation only. (Closed) Some of the larger ones which I still sometimes lurk at but never post are: The Gear Page, TDPRI, FenderForum (C.G.) The Acoustic Guitar Forum (formerly The Taylor Forum), Les Paul Forum, My Les Paul, Gibson Guitar Board, Guitars Canada, PRSForums, Strat-Talk, FenderTalk, a couple of sites from new Zealand and lots more that I can't remember at the moment. This is by far the best forum out there although there is also some good info on TDPRI. I have either terminated my membership or else just left quietly in every other forum. They're mostly fine until you've been there a while. The problem with many of those forums is that because they are privately owned and have semi-requisite user membership fees there is a lot of posturing, hassles, jostling for position and basic good-old-boy club mentality. You know ... us vs. them. The elite vs. the outcasts. Some of the lesser known ones allow colourful language and name-calling.

It is the memory of my experiences with other forums that sometimes prompts me to speak out in caution about things that happen here. I've seen boards come and go. Some just die out completely, usually because of troubles within and a lack of self moderation. Some die because of heavy-handed, top-down, iron-fist moderation that leaves no room to breathe. Others die because the lack of moderation encourages a free-for-all to evolve. For me, putting up with a little SPAM is no big deal in the long run. Curiosity may get the better of you and drive to to explore other forums but I can pretty much gauarantee you won't find anything better than this place. We had some problems here a couple years ago and I basically quit coming for a while but Brad seems to have found a good balance in his approach and most of the guys are self policing.

Thanks Beemer, I have no intention of leaving, just thought I'd see what's out there. I do go to Strat-talk from time to time, but more a lurker than a poster. This IS a great forum, just getting a bit annoying as of late. Hopr Brad and Rob can get a handle on it, but as stated before, I'm sure they have many more important things to do at FMIC than watch the goings on here 24/7. All we can do until a solution comes along is try to help them moderate the spam as it comes in...it does get deleted pretty fast. i do notice it seems to really get slammed here on the weekends...guess the slime that sends out that crap knows most places aren't moderated too closely on the weekends.
