I was hoping for a Hendrix praise thread. One of the great joys in life is staying up all night..and watching Jimi's Woodstock set at dawn. I still grab my bass and pretend I'm Billy Cox, the whole thing.

Some of the new Fender bass strings have that wonderful oil base in them. New Fender bass, blackened finger tips.

Hendrix! Man, there was just something about that guy and the equipment he used. I haven't heard ANY album since 'Are You Experience' that came close in terms of raw electrified emotion. I don't know what 'it' is, but I know 'it' when I hear 'it'.

There's also the other thing ... he was such an amazing guitar player, you could totally miss the vocals. I always loved Hendrix' voice, check out all the cover versions of Little Wing for example. Nobody comes close to his vocals (IMO).

How was that Benny Hill? It doesn't take much arm twisting to get some Hendrix praise around these parts.

p.s. oily strings = yucky. No thanks.

I used to plug my Precision into a 1965ish Kustom with one of those curly cables. There was a little extra noise, but the tone had this great "icing" on top of it all that provided more definition. Maybe that's part of the raw electrified thing Jimi had...those cables.
