JJ Cale was a unique talent. I remember getting hold of his Troubador album in the 1980s and being totally mesmerised by it, probably the first time I'd listened to music that wasn't all overdriven guitars and pounding drums. He made it ok to do songs that grooved and built up and just boogied along without beating you round the head. He even made Casio guitars cool!

At least JJ had a pretty good run and got to make a lot of music in his time. I always loved his style and his attitude and I really enjoyed his original version of Call Me The Breeze, some beauty guitar work.

Very sad. Been a fan since the Really album, whenever that was.

I was in Boston one time in the '90s and saw in the paper that JJ Cale was playing a club in town that very night. Assumed it would have been sold out for months but went along on the off-chance and found myself standing right at the front, stage centre! He put on a great, great show: fabulous music, zero rock 'n' roll BS. One of the memorable evenings of my life.

By the way, it's well worth watching his right hand in videos. One of the more unusual picking techniques out there.

He'll be truly missed.

Cheers - C

Good bye JJ, God bless.

Had the good fortune to see him live, Billy Preston opened. They each did a set individually and joined together for a third set.

Don't have a lot of his albums, but enjoy his music.

Cocaine and After Midnight are among my favorites.

I really like the Michelob version of the latter!
