I just saw Brian Wilson with Al Jardine + David Marks. Tons of Fender guitars in that show.

Al and Dave both played Mustangs and the other guitarists played Strats.

The Band is unbelievable and recreate Wilsons later 60s stuff note for note but alas Brian's voice is shot and at times he seemed confused and missed vocal cues and forgot lyrics.

Still the songs are a thing of beauty. Sail On Sailor, Don't Worry Baby, Wouldn't it Be Nice, pure genius.

Brian's knowledge of harmony was always evident. Sad to see him slip from the effects of the demons in his life. One of my favorite composers!

I'm looking forward to some friends if mine coming to town again. They're on tour with Five Finger Death Punch this Summer.

If you're into some of the harder stuff, they're really good live. It's a band called Gemini Syndrome.

Great band, good all around people.

I forgot about this thread, I was outside of Wrigley Field in Chicago on the Waveland Ave. side of the stadium with a thousand or so other music lovers without tickets for Pearl Jam on Friday July 19. They sounded great there was a rain delay so we hung out at Deuces and Vines on Clark until they started. They rocked until almost 2am. Good times Bros. 8)

Hugh Laurie is playing here on our 6th anniversary, Oct. 13th. I'm going to try to take the wife if we can afford the tickets...I've heard they're pretty high though. Love his first record. If you haven't heard it, do yourself a favor and check it out...very good old blues covers -
new record comes out in a few days. I can't wait to hear it.

Yea, Hugh Laurie's 1st CD (Let Them Talk) is made up mostly of New Orleans covers. Laurie spent 6 mos. in New Orleans blending in w/ the city, local musicians, attending clubs, jamming and finally recording the CD.

He rented a house about 3 blocks over in the neighborhood where Mrs. Lightnin and I stay every year - the Faubourg Marigny (or just the Marigny to the locals) right outside the French Quarter.

He got around town on this old Schwinn bike from the '50s which musta weighed a ton. We saw him pedalling through the neighborhood, or on Royal St. several times.

Though we never met him or introduced ourselves, he started recognizing us from the neighborhood and we exchanged nods on several occaisions. He could often be seen in the local clubs (saw him at Snug Harbor on Frenchment St. one nite and then at Siberia on St. Claude Ave. the next).

The local shopkeepers, waitstaff and such whom we know say he was a great guy, very self-effacing. The local corner grocer told me Laurie was in his store and was recognized by some tourist who shouted: "Hey House..." ... the grocer said Laurie muttered under his breath: "Oh God...".

All-in-all, it's a credible CD and Laurie left a good impression with the locals.

cheers!

Melvins fell through, so instead I went to a $5 emo/punk show (EMO IS NOT WHAT MOST OF THIS BOARD LIKELY BELIEVES IT TO BE). It was awesome.

Saw Satan's Satyrs and CHURCHBURN at a metal fest the night before. Satan's Satyrs were incredible and I got 2 shirts, and CHURCHBURN was as great as ever.

WOW !! That's too much !! :(

My buddy who owns the club up here, Lowell Picket, told me that Phillips is touring the country for a year w/ his wife and 4y.o. son (well done Shawn! ;)) in an RV and doing gigs along the way to pay the freight - no crew or backup.

The Tix up here are only $35.

Albert Lee the next night is $30 a pop.

I'm seeing Johnny Winter in Sept w/ a VIP front row center table for only $44 - reg. admission is $25.

cheers!

Are you sure..??

Up here Hugh Laurie's show (2 days after Nashville) are only $48.50-$58.50 (which I still think are too much for a non-musician)

But the Nashville Symphony site says the tix aren't even on sale until tomorrow (8/2/13) and doesn't even list a price.

You may want to check again...

cheers!
