Disclaimer: Perhaps considered a mature topic, so if you don't agree please refrain from posting, also I'm not 100% if this is within the rules so I'll leave it up to Brad's discretion. Also, please no propaganda, I don't want a flamewar starting, just a sensible discussion.

Now,

Are there any? Just curious to see how many musicians smoke, and how its influenced your life and your playing.

Personally I started smoking at 14 on the weekends, which is when my music horizons first started broadening. I was an irregular smoker till 18 when I became a dailer toker. From this point on smoking and music became inseperable. They go wonderfully together. Don't get me wrong, I listen to music all the time even when I'm sober but when I'm stoned music often becomes so much more obviously powerful. My mind focuses more on it and I pick up the depth and distinguish the different aspects and how they mesh together much better.

As for playing guitar, most of the time I play I'm sober, but when I have a bowl and play its.. well.. great fun. I'm most definately still an amateur (been about 2 years since I started playing) but when I've smoked I tend to zone in (just like when I'm listening to music) and my playing becomes a lot more effortless, streamlined, and imaginative. I do, however, have a problem keeping rhythm, but thats a flaw with my playing regardless.

Oh and I'd just like to say, ganj overall has definately had a positive influence on my life. Just like any substance (be it cannabis, tobacco, alcohol, caffiene, hell even adrenaline or paracetamol) it can be abused, but sensible use often reaps great reward (the Buddhist idea of the 'middle path')

So, anyone got any input? :)

I seriously don't see how this is inside the rules, I just read that it says no to talk about drugs...

Well, like I said, its up to Brad. Its very subjective, personally I don't see marijuana as any more of a drug than tobacco or alcohol. If Brad decides to close the thread thats fine and well, I understand there are minors on the board, but I'm curious to find out about the other board member's experiences.

For the record I don't personally consider cannabis a dangerous substance either, BUT the fact of the matter is that it doesn't matter if you personally see marijuana as a drug.
The United Kingdom considers it a Class C drug.
The United States considers it a Schedule I drug.
That doesn't leave room for interpretation when the forum rules state:
"Don't distribute, post, or discuss obscene or other unlawful materials like child pornography or illegal drugs."
