OK Fender Amp Historians, just what was Fender's first amp head and what year was it introduced? How about the first Bassman head?

Thank You

IIRC, I believe the Bassman and Bandmaster were both introduced in '61 however I think the Showman was '60 so that could be the first head. I'm sure there are others who'll know more.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

If you look on page 246 of the Book "Soul Of Tone" by Tom Wheeler...you will see that back in 1957 Leo was already experimenting with separate heads and cabs. On that page is a tweed Bassman Head with a 4x10 Cab sitting below it. The formal "Piggyback" amps started coming to market in 1960...per the same book and page.

Right you are, Tony.

While that one-off 5F6 Bassman was in fact sold as a custom order, the first commercially-available piggyback -- the Showman -- appeared in 1960. An all-new Bassman and Tremolux, along with a restyled Bandmaster followed in 1961.
