As you can probably guess, country music is pretty big around here. Especially during the Calgary Stampede.

Tochai... your thoughts on Flogging Molly? I haven't read up on them and I'm not sure of the real history, but I love their music, and the live show is nothing short of life-changing. :) cheers.
also, I met up with some friends at an Irish bar here in Nashville not too long ago...made the mistake of telling the dude who owns it that I don't really drink anymore...well he broke out some crazy high priced Irish whiskey, gave us all a free taste, and then kept the Irish car chases coming.... got pretty trashed before I left that place.... and then he came to the next bar we went to with us.... what a night.

I live in a small rural bedroom town in Alberta that is about a half hour from the city. I live deep in the heart of Alberta red neck country. The most common vehicle around here is a pickup.

Typing from Washington state, USA.

The culture in my home involves turntables and tube amps for music listening and music making.

Doublenecks loom large in my mythology.

Houston, Texas. Where the culture is way more diverse and international than most people think (it rivals New York IMO), the food is fantastic, and the art and music scene is growing. Blues has always been a part of Texas culture, and Houston is particularly rich in blues history and we have people still out there actively playing and promoting blues music. There's also rock, rap, jazz, tejano, and literally any type of music you think of going on here. It's also an easy day trip to Austin, the self proclaimed Live Music Capitol of The World (it's also the "what do you mean, pay the musicians?" capitol of the world, but whatever). Overall, (with the exception of Nashville) I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Based on data from 2000, the following map doesn't support your 'O':

New York = 5th most diverse
Texas = 11th

I live in PA and commute to NYC for my job. I see some cool acts on the marquis at the local theater but i'm out of the loop. I could tell you what's going on in the Post Production and Television scene though

strings, i looked it up myself because your data is outdated....outdata'd..hmmm...
anyway, as of last year the houston area has moved up to 8th, with a total score of 79.6, the new york area is holding 5th with an 80.5 total score...so , Rebecca is right, it does in fact rival NYC.

Man what kind of distorted society puts taxes on a natural event out of the peoples hands to manage!!!

Sure is, the tax on on impervious run off from your property that may go into the drainage system. Businesses with parking lots really get charged large amounts. We are the first state in the country to have this tax.

Hi Guys,

I am a newbie here. From Guyana, South America originally, moved to Ottawa the Capital of Canada for nearly 20 years and now in Barbados on a Diplomatic Mission.

I have loved music all my life and lived for it. Sadly enough I never got into any musical instruments until now. I bought a Fender Strat hoping and praying that now, in my ripe old mid forties, I can learn to play without driving the neighborhood animals out of town.

I have taken a few lessons but have to continue practicing. I have purchased a few instructional books and DVDs, look online for coaching and tackling the learning curve. I do know that practice will be the only key to success.

As a youngster I was involved with many other productive activities but I am still sad that I have never picked up guitar playing long before. I really appreciate and respect electric guitar players and cant help but soak in every electric guitar note played in a song.

Keep on rocking guys.

Coming to you from Chicagoland. I have always felt that the world was a suburb of Chicago. The third coast, on the shores of Lake Michigan. A diverse city, culturally, musically, architecturally, in general really. Most people have a favorite band from Chicago including the band Chicago. Hot summers cold winters, in the winters the windy city has "the hawk" when the wind comes whipping around that concrete jungle it can knock you off your feet if you're not careful. If you get the chance come visit if only for art and music. You won't be disappointed.
