My question is, what time zone was that part of the moon on when Armstrong, and Aldrin were doing what so many wished they could also have done.

Still the greatest achievement in the history of man in my life time so far! I too was 17 and an avid space geek (still am) I can remember staying up late and taking black and white photos with my Pentax Spotmatic from the TV screen when that big moment came. I was pretty tired next day going to work on the bus. I remember as we travelled thru downtown Toronto the electronic stores had their TV sets on and all were playing the repeats of that one moment 44 years ago.

Godspeed on the rest of your journey Neil Armstrong!!

On a related note, Canadian jazz singer, Diana Krall (wife to Elvis Costello), attended Armstrong's memorial service on Aug. 30, 2012 by invitation.

Wearing a pendant in the shape of a crescent moon, she started her set with: "This one's for you Neil..." then struck up... Fly Me to the Moon...

One Classy Broad !!

cheers!

I was stunned when I heard of the death of Neil Armstrong. A true American hero.

I was 8 years old and remember watching it on TV with my family. Simply amazing...

there have been a few threads about the moon landing over the years here. one of those threads has an account of that evening for me, this time I'll just say "yes I watched it on a television back then" :D

It was a Sunday night. I was with friends at the Holiday Ballroom (now a CTA Blue Line Station), in between sets we would go into the lobby to watch the landing on the televisions there. Space travel is only one of the USAs contributions to the development of mankind, but an important one nonetheless. I cannot understand why our current Federal Government despises us so as to give away our future in space travel and especially deep space travel.
