When this happened, the singer also left. Now I have to sing and play guitar. I'm fine with that, but now we are depending on our bassist to play the rhythm parts to hold the song together. Since in most of our songs, the bass follows the rhythm guitar for the most part, I'm thinking it should sound okay. What do you guys think? We have a show next weekend and I'm freaking out about all of this.

Think Rush, ZZ Top, (Early)Grand Funk Railroad, all three player bands.

Nirvana also played that way until they added Pat Smear.

I know but the songs we wrote had strong guitar parts for both rhythm and lead, alone they can sound really strange.

Check out Cream's stuff. They did amazing things with a power trio.

As far as having a limited sound due to only having one guitar, I used to think a lot about that. A great example of this, though, is Led Zeppilin. In studio, Jimmy Page would often overdub lots of stuff, but live, they never played with an extra guitarist or two. I love seeing Zeppilin performances on YouTube, 'cuz I can contrast 'em with the album and see how Jimmy changed things up for the live version.

I do a lot of that when I'm working on my songs. I'll basically have three versions: Studio w/ Overdubs, Power Trio, and Solo Vocal/Acoustic.

you will jsut have to learn how to adapt, i have spent most of my life playing lead and rythm guitar, you just have to change your scope. look at it as one part sill the gaps, and make you sound like more than 1 guitar. the guys mentioned like page, or hendrix, or srv, or calpton with cream, listetn to the sounds they make with just 3 musicians

rush was a power trio, and you would never think of it from listening to them

Learn a few tunes from Mountain, the second coming of Cream. There's plenty of 3 piece rock there that any bar full o' drunks will love.

Where I'm from, a guitarist who likes punk rock and doesnt want to be a death metal band is hard to find

in fact I and the guitarist who quit are the only guitarist who dont want to play metal.

the Police were also another 3-man band and they were the most popular band in the world in the mid-80's
