I do it because I notice a difference in high gain playing.

Upstrokes do actually sound different, and don't sound as good, and in fact make it sound sloppier than it already is.

The Ramones certainly didn't make it on their guitar virtuosity that's for sure....nor by majoring in 'study hall and detention 101' at Forest Hills High School either. I give the nod to Paul Simon and Leslie West, also alumni of that institution, when it comes to being a true player. Different strokes, I always say.

amazing, I did not know that they were all alumnus at the same high school Doc, thanks 8)

James, if you and your drummer keep at it you'll do just fine.
This is a vid of Blackbox, they won a grammy in 2009. My Bro Gregg Potter and guitar player Damon Ranger:

you know Scott as in you still talk to him sometimes or you knew him "back in the day" (oh, H title for you) ?
Local H is my absolute favorite band. I finally got to see them and talk with Scott for a minute about 2 years ago. best night ever. showed up early , heard the soundcheck through an open back door, then while i was sitting in a bar across the way waiting for my friend - brian st clair walks up to the window, looks inside like he's looking for someone...and then walks on by... before i can even finish the thought "holy crap, that was brian" - Scott walks up and does the same thing, but he comes right inside and has a beer. I was going to go say hi but he already had like 10 dudes around him. luckily he jumped right off stage after the show and sold his own merch, like i've always heard he does... gah, i'm a fanboy. i said it. bought a cd, said hi, went on my way... can't wait til they come back again.
James, man, you are awesome. I watched the first one, will watch the rest later when I can find my headphones. my arm hurts just watching all those downstrokes.

Dan Local H is a cool band I agree. Some friends of mine are friends of his and introduced me to Scott. He might remember me because we saw each other more when I lived in Wicker Park, it's been awhile. A great Bro is he, very nice gracious cool. Local H plays around the Chicagoland area often.

I like the ending part the best, like after the second "I saw her..." thingy. I feel like the energy was right cause we just got more intense.

Yea, it's a serious problem actually, my right arm is significantly more toned than my left. I don't recommend playing all downstrokes to anyone, unless you really have to have that sound.

I was told to get a sound depressor pedal.

that's awesome, SBLS. Yeah, every time I hear about them doing some impromptu show at the beat kitchen or somewhere I'm a little more motivated to look into moving out there... but, Nashville is home for now... and at least we seem to be on the regular tour lineup for the most part.
James, I would imagine some people get the wrong idea about your right arm being more toned than the left...just sayin'
