Hello! I have a Robert Cray MIM model, and I'm upgrading some parts, primarily the tuners. I'm putting on the John Mayer/James Burton mother of pearl tuners and I wanted to change the bridge to gold so I can have all the parts match.

However, the music store I go to called Fender and said they don't sell the Robert Cray bridge in gold (even though they have them at the factory). I was wondering if there is any aftermarket gold hardtail that is the SAME as the RC one. I've seen the American Standard bridge, but I would have to drill new holes and such and I'd rather not do that.

Any help? (I'll also post in the main forum too).

Thanks! (The link is to the type of bridge I'm looking for)

Stew-Mac is your friend.

This is the part you need......

http://www.allparts.com/SB-0100-002-Gol ... _3211.html

And here's what it looks like installed on a Robert Cray body......

Image

The mounting-screw spacing is identical to the stock Robert Cray bridge plate. The saddles supplied with this bridge are generic cast zinc (no stamped logo) but Fender's vintage-spec gold saddles are a drop-on fit.

When you say 'Robert Cray Body' does this differ from a standard stratocaster body?

As a sidenote, the only time I saw Robert Cray live was 3 or 4 years ago at the outdoor ampitheatre of the Minnesota Zoo about 15 miles south of the cities.

It was a 98° August night w/ no breeze and 98% humidity, it smelled like a Zoo, and the mosquitoes were so thick you could hardly see the stage.

Even Robert seemed 'uninspired', and I'd have to rate it one of the worst live performances I'd ever seen.

I'd love to (and hope to) see him live in a better venue someday.

cheers!

The Robert Cray Strat is the only vintage-spec hardtail model currently in production.

Some parts are not for retail sale. Don't go to the counter, go to a Fender authorized tech. He may be able to purchase the bridge to "repair" your guitar. Of course the catch is he has to replace the bridge and do a setup.

Yes a fixed bridge is referred to as a hard tail.

Pack a lunch......!

I went that route when I needed the vintage hardtail bridge in gold, only to be told after waiting seven months that the part was "not available".

The identical bridge arrived five days later after I ordered it from Allparts.

(make it a big lunch)

Ha Ha! I was too lazy to type - Your mileage may vary.

I've had good luck with my local tech.
