So many awesome stories in this post.

Great to hear all the love and pride in what we do. Rock and Roll will never die.

Hard to explain the impression this photo made on me--Hendrix, Beach Boys, etc., none of them clicked with me like "Brownie" did. I even wanted a pair of those shoes to go with the Strat (which I didn't own until 1978).

+1 Rud!!! When I saw this cat playing Brownie in 1970! Talk about blowing your mind! I had one of the best uncles a kid could ever have...I bet I was the only 8 year old there!!

I can't say for sure if it was Clapton or Beck or SRV or Gilmour or Townsend, but this album cover really stuck with me. So timeless an image -especially the back cover with the Strat just leaning up there. The Strat was everything cool about guitar, and still is to this day.

Image

My first Strat was my third guitar. Sure wish I still had it today, but the 4 Fenders I own today (2 Strats and 2 Teles) take me right back to how I felt about them in the very early 80's.

Not the first, but it was the first that made me want a Fender Strat.

+1 Wish I still had my '62 Jazzmaster, but the custom player is a close second and the strings stay put on the saddles

Daphne Blue '65 Mustang Reissue (Made in Japan). It's no longer my favorite--2011 Amer Standard Tele is--but at the time it was the first "real Fender" I had held and I could not believe how solid it felt compared to my $180 "starter" guitar that was my first electric. Played it in a Best Buy and had to have it. Ended up getting it for $600 when the sticker price was $939 at the time. It was a floor model but was in perfect condition.

Come to think of it, I should pull that one out the next time I play. It's still beautiful and solid.

My first Fender was/is an F250 acoustic. Yes, I love it, but the first one I looooooorved wasn't a guitar, it was an amp...my first Fender amp, a silverface 4x10 master-volume Bassman Ten.

Great for guitar, harp and keyboards...decent for bass...made for a makeshift PA in a pinch...weighed a ton...purists hated it...killer, natural patina (relic'd the right way--through years of use)...

And I sold it to make a house payment. :(

In the words of Peter Green, "Oh, well."

Mine was a Black Stratocaster I saw David Gilmour playing. I knew one day I would own one and now I do.

I knew at that moment should I ever learn to play, that'd be the guitar for me.

Ditto. My old friend and bandmate Gary bought one in 1958 and bought it from him four years later. By the way, I wonder if this photo was taken at a stop on the '59 Winter Party tour. The guy on the bass gives me cause to think so. It appears to be Waylon Jennings.

Yep... that's the last photo of Buddy Holley performing at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, IA for the '59 Winter Dance Party Tour... sponsored by: KRIB 1490 on your radio dial - "America's Best Music" , a 1,000 watt AM radio station out of Mason City. IA.

Same date as the one noted in my pics above - aka The Day the Music Died... February 3, 1959.

In fact, it was Waylon Jennings who gave up his seat on the chartered Beechcraft Bonanza to J.P. Richardson (aka The Big Bopper) because of a nasty flu he had. Richie Valens got on the plane because he won a coin toss with Tommy Allsup (extreme right in pic) - Holley's guitar player.

The rest were to take the Tour Bus (w/ broken heater) to the next stop on the tour - Moorhead, MN, 5 hours away.

cheers!
