Does anyone ever seen the Travel Channel show "Bizarre Foods With Andrew Zimmerman?"

I think it's a great show.

I love it when the food involves bugs!

Yea... he's an old Brooklyn Boy who now lives in MSP.

He's famous for traveling the world and eating stuff that would make a maggot puke !!

He's often seen in local restaurants, especially a place I frequent.

The locals have adopted him, but personally (and I've met him on several occasions), he's all about the shock... the controversy, of eating foods which are strange to most us.

Just another Son of Isreal who'se found a niche eating things that the indigineous Scandinavian Lutherans of my region wouldn't even consider.

I grew up all over the World and ate a lot of what he makes a living of, simply because it's what was available.

He's a decent guy, but not exactly an innovator or Pioneer.

cheers!

PS... Bob Dillan (aka Bobby Zimmerman) was a boy from Minnesota's Iron Range who used to play local coffeehouses and lived above Gray's Drug in Dinkytown (local Unniversary shop area) where I attended undergraduate school (U of M). It's now a Froo-froo Pasta joint - The Loring Pasta Bar. I admit, he did write some pretty good songs though.

cheers!

Had he spelled it 'Israel'....from the Hebrew phonetic 'yis-ra-ale', one might think so. However, in this instance, he did not.

Must be a Scandinavian Lutheran influence  .

No fox, lox and bagels.

You know... I was waiting for someone to jump in...

But the guy Buxom named in his original thread is actually Andrew Zimmern, not Zimmerman (though likely his family's original name).

He moved to MN because of alcohol and drug dependency after living homeless on the street in Manhattan, surviving by pick-pocketing and purse-snatching until arrested and charged. He plea-bargained to avoid jail time agreeing to be treated at the Hazleden Treatment Center for Alcohol and Drug Abuse here in Minneapolis.

After cleaning himself up, he worked as Exec. Chef of one of the Twin Cities best restaurants - Café Un Deux Trois, establishing his reputation (which is where I first met him).

cheers!
