I prefer using a small piece of wood as well to block a tremolo, becuase I find it adds to sustain, and the reason why 90% of my guitars don't have trems is because I don't use them, and I find that the guitars don't seem to sustain or resonate as well as non-trem guitars.

I completely agree. I fiound myself not using my tremelo as much as I expected.

I really wish I could go back in time and have ordered my Strat in hard-tail. But alas, I was young, dumb, and inexperienced back then, and thought I would do some dive bombing every time I played I guess.

Well, FWIW, Clapton can definitely afford to get his Strats made as hardtails but chooses to block off the tremelo instead. You're in good company.

Well wont blocking your trem with a piece of wood, or using 5 springs with a tight claw, or getting a hardtail strat provide the same results? Is there any real difference in the end result?

There may be, but the average player won't be able to tell the difference.

The only problem with Floyd Rose is the fact that they're a pain in the you-know-what to tune and to replace strings on. Otherwise they're decent forms of vibrola. I personally prefer them over Bigsby or any other by far.

Speaking of Floyd Rose, how much is the tailpiece itself? And how difficult would it be to install manually?
