In that case, do whatever make you happy, man. It's all rather subjective anyway. We had a thread last year called "When is a Stratocaster No Longer a Stratocaster". A hundred different people had a hundred different opinions.

Maybe you could find some stencils and label it by hand. That way you wouldn't have to worry about supporting counterfeit label makers. Just a thought.

If you don't plan on selling then why do it?

Because it looks terrible as is. It's off balance, and the yellowed but empty area looks like crap.

Besides, I may be painting the headstock, then I'm really going to be stuck.

Come to think of it, I may be able to bribe an honest decal salesman into venturing into some barely legal business...

It's all about the money!

The only way to get a real Fender decal is through an authorized Fender service center and that requires complete documentation and photos of the guitar and neck in question which will be done by the service center and sent to Fender for authentication. YOU cannot just buy a genuine Fender decal off the street from a legitimate source.

I understand the skepticism, but this thing will be my #1. And IF it went, for financial or other reasons, story will be told and it will be sold or parted out accordingly.

Obviously you know it is wrong or you wouldn't be here trying to justify it and looking for people to tell you it's all right to put on a fake label.

Send a PM to Telecaster God:

1. He loves putting fake Fender waterslide decals on Squier guitars.

2. He's never, ever gonna sell those guitars... though he indeed has.

3. He makes Fender forgeries, then comes on this Forum to brag about it.

4. He must have a good source for fake Fender decals.

5. He can give you the answer you seem to want.

I'm not looking for a different answer, I new posting it HERE that I would get these results.

In my mind, this is a Fender, and it's a Jaguar. So I'm not as much looking for justification there, but I'm looking for a way to get a hold of that decal without feeling like I'm supporting fraud, or perhaps I'm overthinking it. Aftermarket logos cost maybe $15 a pair, so how much am I really supporting the business? And is it their fault that people use their REPLACEMENT logos for fraud?

And perhaps this will help you:

Image

'65 jag, my dad bought mid 80's. Modded to hell, turned into a PURPLE SPARKLE 12 string. With a f*cking FLOYD ROSE. NEW NECK. You would think that if I was planning on selling this I would pick an easier platform. I spent 5 hours straight in a garage in the middle of summer, in Austin Texas, painstakingly chiseling out the filled trem cavity, to get this thing playing again. So please don't write me off as a scam.

And in my mind I'm 6'4", 215, Blonde hair, Blue eyes w/ a j'hnson nicknamed 'Snake'...

But that don't make it so...

You're seeking affirmation or absolution from the group, the majority of whom oppose the idea (myself included).

Why even ask us..??

You're gonna do what you want in the end anyway...

cheers!

I'm not sure exactly what you meant by that, but I find that a bit disturbing. I kept up with your project thread while you were working on this guitar, so I know how much effort and enthusiasm you put into modifying it. I also know you like retro bands that play Jags. So I had thought it was all about your passion for Fender Jaguars.

But I don't think you would have started this thread if you didn't have a conscience, so I am not putting you in the same category as the self-proclaimed God. So before you do this ...

after all the work you have done on this guitar, I think you should ask yourself if you will be able to look at it, day after day, and still feel the same way about it, knowing you did something that you yourself seem to feel is shady.

Sorry if I came off as serious, both those comments were meant as jokes.

I'm very invested into this project. I'm excited to see it come to fruition, should be a ton of fun. All I need is paint and pups, I'm so ready to get this done.

I'm thinking I'll take everyone's advice. I think I'll leave the logo as is for now, and I'll decide after she's all mocked up whether I want to paint the headstock or fix the logo, or perhaps neither.

Thanks for all your help!

That guitar carries the same wallet that Samuel L. Jackson carried in Pulp Fiction
