You could probably find a used Gibson SG Special for less than $500.00

I currently own 2 Gibson's, I have owned others too.

I'm not sure how this is possible. Can you find something like it on MF or GC website and link it? I'd kind of like to see what you're talking about.

I own the Gibson SG Special in worn brown finish, and I think it's a good guitar but not worth $630. Now if you were to spend $2000 or above, Gibsons kick $@!. But for the rest of us sane people that actually work, I'll stick with my Fenders. 8)

I've got a Gibson LP. Don't play it too much, but there are times when I want that thick LP tone.

Do I think they are overpriced?
Yes.
Does that mean they're a ripoff?
That implies to me that they're not good guitars. So, no, they're not a ripoff.

Some may see that as the same thing, I see it as two different things.

No man, you got it right. Is a Lamborghini a ripoff?

I have had some very nice playing/looking Gibson's. I do think they are over priced. But I don't think they are rip off's.

SG's are sick. they have a full sound but are much lighter then LP's. I love them. esp has a version of the SG but its more of a metal guitar

Yeah, I never said they were pretty. But they're just a hunk o'mahogany with a double cut and humbuckers. Just like an SG. They of course had to make the cuts different or Gibson would have sued them. Get past the looks and you've got a good guitar though.

I sold a 1971 Guild S50 on CL not long ago for $350. You might want to look for a Guild S100 or S200.

Ditto, it's tone nicely fits into this dark (but somewhat narrow) range that I really dig!
Although if I had my way it'd be H-90's so I could choose to go humbucking or not.

'Bought a new Gibson faded brown SG with dot inlays, open HBs, no vibrato, Gibson-decal only headstock, last month for $700 and it is a truly excellent guitar, great player, comfortable, fair-priced.

Most comparable Fender in this opinion is a Jazzmaster, which is writer's fave Fender. And it is twice the price of the Gibson.

Ya think we can look forward to a Gibson 335 special that's priced below $700 bucks?

Man, I would love to see that happen.
