I must be darn impressionable. At my local guitar supplier, I was playing a Gibson SG look alike. Had the body of the SG but the shape of a Strat. I was playing it then I asked my friend (and manager) buddy when he was gonna get a real SG. He said never. I said why. His response: "We don't like to rip people off." I am still trying to understand what he meant by that. I mean they are expensive, but are they really that bad. Any SG owners out there?

He's talking about value for the dollar. I'm fairly sure the real reason he doesn't carry Gibson's is because he can't afford to. When you enter into a sales agreement with the major manufacturers you have to agree to move so many units per quarter. That means he has to shell out for X amount of guitars whether he can afford it then or not. A lot of smaller shops just can't afford to carry that much over head.

Yeah I get where you are coming from. But I wouldn't consider them a small business. They have really grown over the past few years. They actually just moved into an old JCPennys so yeah, you get the size of the shop now.

I don't know. I've never heard him say anything about Gibsons, and I only just realized a while ago that he didn't have any. But does anyone know how they compare in comfort, playability, and quality to Fenders?

Because right now I'm stuck between buying either another Torondo, or an SG, I don't know which I want yet.

It's all personal preference dude. You just have to play em and see what feels right.

If I were to own an SG it would be a P90 SG.

Any suggestion on guitars that have the same shape and body as an SG? But not an Epiphone...

Guild used to make a humbucker equipped SG copy once upon a time. It's a good guitar and you can probably find em cheap enough. A lot cheaper then a new Gibson, that's for sure.

Yeah, I never said they were pretty. But they're just a hunk o'mahogany with a double cut and humbuckers. Just like an SG. They of course had to make the cuts different or Gibson would have sued them. Get past the looks and you've got a good guitar though.

I'm into aesthetic though. If a guitar doesn't look decent I can't get into playing it.

Ya know, you can just get an Epi SG and drop in some Burstbuckers and you've got yourself a sweet axe. You'll have to play a few to find a neck you like though.

I suggest trying to find a high-end Japanese-made Gibson copy.

They are much better than Korean- or Chinese-made copies.

You can get the "right" shaped headstock too.

Good idea. Just make sure it's not one of those cheap $@! knockoff's on eBay.
