What is your favorite overdrive/fuzz pedal? Which would you keep if you could have only one?

Overdrive and Fuzz are two different things, so...

My two favorite overdrives are the Ibanez TS9 Tubescreamer and the Danelectro DO-1 Daddy-O. To me, they are benchmarks in sound, durability and quality. I own and use both regularly--TS9 on the Big Ol' Board of Sonic Delight and DO-1 in the studio.

I own one fuzz pedal--a Dunlop JH2 Jimi Hendrix System Classic Fuzz. It's a Fuzzface in a Phase 90 enclosure. Everything you love about fuzz, without the (unfortunate) added noise and muddyness that sometimes pops up. I'm not saying there aren't other good (or better) fuzzes out there, but that one does it for me, and has for over ten years...every time I think about taking it off the BOBOSD, I step in it and chastise myself for the thought.

There are a million other pedals out there, but these do it for me.

Thanks. Seems Bonamassa agrees with you. I read an interview in which he praises the tubescreamer and mentions how people are always showing him pedals claiming they are better, and Bonamassa is like, "No, it's not. Tubescreamer is the best. They got it right the first time and you can't improve it."

I only have a overdrive. I don't use a fuzz but for OD I use a TS 808. I've also used an OCD. Either one is very good.

You just reminded me I was planning to get one of those new Boss Adaptive Distortion pedals. Might !@$ into town tomorrow and treat myself.

EDIT: haha, N-I-P triggers the word filter!

I use the Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive overdrive pedal. Gets the job done and I like the tone I get out of it.

Humble Boss SD-1. It really makes my strat sing through my solid state Marshall.
DigiTech Metal Master for high gain lead. It almost nails Dimebag's (Pantera) tone and Adam Jones (Tool) tone.
Boss MD-2. Great tone for heavy metal palm mute chugging rhythm playing.

With the possible exception of the original Artibiter Fuzz Face I have found that formy use and liking the old Rams head Big Muff Pi from the late 60s to be the best of all fuzz units. As far as Overdrive pedals I would have to say that the original Marshall Guv'nor with the square metal case to be the best one yet-at least of all that I have tried. The original Guv'nor is basically a handful of classic Marshall amps in a small unit. The Way Huge Green Rhino also deserves mention here because it comes close to the Guv'nor for superb overdriven sounds.

Fulltone OCD (w/ 18VDC adapter) and Dunlop Jimi Hendrix Fuzz/Wah pedal here. I think both are great, but my experience is limited.

cheers!

Believe it or not I actually played a used generic, no-name fuzz pedal and quite liked it over a Fuzz Face (keep in mind I only tried one Fuzz Face).

My favorite is the Tube Screamer, namely the TS-808 variety. I built one from a kit from those guys at BYOC.

http://buildyourownclone.com/effects-pedals/overdrive/classic-overdrive.html

Trust me... It IS an Ibanez Tube Screamer TS-808 (same exact parts). It just gets housed in a basic, generic, stomp box enclosure. You just have to solder all the electronic parts/pieces onto the circuit board and put it all together. It's awesome! 8)

I don't have a fuzz pedal and to be honest - I don't think I'd want one. Fuzz pedals are either liked or disliked too. Some guitarists love them, others hate them. Sorry to say, but to me, a fuzz pedal sounds real nasily and sounds like a buzzing fly stuck on a piece of flypaper! There... I said it. :P
