My new SG sounds like poop through the miii. I don't know why, maybe the stock pickups are to hot for it. I messed around with the fuse and have tried every thing I can think of. It just sounds really compressed and flat, like theres a blanket thrown over the amp. The mild type of gain is really buzzy and horrible sounding. Now my two Strats sound fantastic through the miii but not the SG,but the SG sounds great through my other amps. I dunno, any suggestions?different pickups maybe?

Pickups set too high on the SG?

I don't think it's your guitar . IMO, the Mustang amps have a very sterile tone to them. I have a Mustang II V2, which I bought back in March because I had heard so much about them and thought I would give it a shot . Needless to say, I was very disappointed with my purchase and didn't care for it at all. I've been teaching my foster son how to play guitar and he loves it though . So I gave it to him .

The Mustang amps, like most modeling amps, seem to have an abundance of poor presets on them and it can be time consuming to go through them and find the ones you like, especially if there are 100 of the dang things. If you don't intend to take the time to learn to use a modeling amp, and it can take some time, you're better off buying a two-channel amp and using pedals.

I own both the Mustang II and the Mustang V half-stack and have gotten delicious sounds out of both of them, but it took some time. Since both of these amps are designed to run with Fender Fuse software through your computer, the options are unlimited, but so is the amount of time you might find yourself investing.

Personally... I have found that I like the sound of humbuckers better than single coils through the Mustang amps. Humbuckers sound fuller and have more bottom end, especially when the amp is used in an overdrive setting. I also like that you don't have to destroy your ears when using a Mustang amp to get a nice tone. I have found a number of really good clean tones, too, which is what I usually prefer.

If you've only just gotten the amp and guitar, you need to invest some time to see just what you have. You're not going to immediately stumble on the tone of SRV or Jimi. Patience is important and don't forget the manual.

The problem with many of the modeling amps are the presets. They make it a hassle to even use the amp. They should just model an amp and leave all the effect slathering to the consumer. Fender did the same thing to the GDec series. Took an okay practice amp and loaded it with presets only a twelve year old would like with tons of reverb, chorus, flanging, super high gain distortion not to mention the over compressed tones. I finally got a decent tone out of my GDec 30 but it took a lot of tweaking to get something usable. I found the same problem with the Mustang amps, too much of a learning curve to be the least bit interested.

I would suggest turning the volume control on the SG down a bit, then cranking back most if not all the effects and start over. Fender has never been the king of digital effects.

That said, sounds like that SG is looking for a real tube amp.

I find plugging headphone jack to desk or stereo opens up the sound a bit and gives full benefit from stereo effcts rather than squeezing all that cabinet and amp modelling back out through the amps 10" speaker.

I find using the effects in Fuse no more hassle than using outboard pedals. Changing effects without Fuse is another story.

Your problem is your amp.

Change that and you'll be ok.

Get an 80s Peavey.

Just getting straight to the point.

Legit, bro.

Only the teal striped ones, though.

The teal/turquoise early 90's Peavey amps are my favorite. I just bought a TNT 160 that sounds really tight..and all the one's I've heard from the series sound the same. They went downhill right after that, though...with the Sheffield speakers and cheaper construction(thin tolex).

I've got a chance to buy a mid 90's full Eden rig(4x10, 15, and head)..but I'm staying with what I've got.

I've been playing with the amp more and the fuse software and I can get a pretty decent sound from the 65 twin model now but I was hoping to get a really kickass Marshalls 70s tone out of it, buts not happening. I'll keep working on it though. I know it's the amp and guitar cause I have other amps and the SG sounds just fine through them. It's just the mustang that's giving me trouble. This is the first nonFender guitar I've tried through it, so I guess it's gonna take some tweaking. Like I mentioned earlier, my Strats sound fantastic through the Mustang, but I guess the SG is just a whole different animal.

The good thing about the MIII and up, is that all the basic amp models are available as presets. #87-99 are the amp models by themselves.

2013 Gibson Standard, a black one. Nothing special, I just wanted a humbucker
equipped guitar and have always liked the look of SGs. I really like it.
