I enjoy my fender strat but I find there are many advantages to having an acoustic guitar as well. So basically I was thinking about buying an acoustic (and this might be a dumb question to ask in a fender forum) but what do you guys know about the $200 price range acoustics? (I've heard they were made cheaply)

I know this is a fender forum, but tbh as much as I love their electric guitars I'd never buy one of their acoustics.

Hello Caliryda,

I play fender acoustics sometimes at
the guitar superstore, they're a decent
value, made well enough, no complaints.

There's better guitars that carry a
higher pricetag, choose what you like,

Cheers.

Thank you all for the replies! Since I will be buying an acoustic shortly, can any of you point me in a good direction towards a decent acoustic? I mainly just want to strum the campfire chords at parties...

If you're lookin for a campfire guitar just go to craigslist and find some $200 used cheapie that you won't care much about if the weather hurts it. I'm sure you can find one that feels good with a week or so of looking.

I love my strat and my tele but not crazy about Fender's Acoustics. I have a Martin DCX1E- great guitar and priced right.

I have never played a Fender Acoustic that felt right to me. I have a Takamini Acoustic and an Alvarez Acoustic They both sound and play great. Alvarez Guitars are priced great and have a really bold tone. I have tried out quite a few and even the ones in the $200 range have some great sound.

Cal, I just purchased an Ibanez 12 string acoustic guitar at Sam Ash for $160 -I was not expecting alot for that price point, but I was pleasantly surprised. This is one of their new "Sage" series- they have a few 6 string models in that series and I would definately try one out at your local store.

Those of you who don't fancy Fender acoustics should try one of their Grand series. Way more $$$ than the poster wants to spend, but they are very nice indeed.

My girlfriend has a Strat and the Fender DG-8 something or other from the Acoustic Starter pack. I use the acoustic as a song writing tool when writing songs for my band. I love the thing, it was pretty cheap, yet sounds and plays great. It's no Martin or Guild, but unless acoustic guitar is your main instrument, and you play out regularly I think a Fender acoustic is hard to go wrong with.

Actually, I'd play that guitar out, it sounds great, IMO. The neck reminds me alot of a guitar version of my 51P bass RI. Very full, and very smooth, with plenty of comfortable string spacing. (well for a guitar anyhow :? )

Are there better acoustics out there? Yeah. Are there better acoustics out there for under 200 bucks? I wouldn't bet on it.

I love Fenders, and love my strat more than any guitar I could possibly have - at any price. But their acoustics suck - sorry. Not built well, feel cheap, sound like crap. They've never gotten the acoustic thing down. I only hope they don't bring Guild and Tacoma down too much - those were great guitars.

Fender - to me and many others - is an electric guitar company. I wouldn't buy an electric from Martin (and not too sure about the taylors, even though I have a taylor acoustic that is amazing).

I'd HIGHLY suggest looking at a different brand of acoustic in that same range. Even the Epi Hummingbirds are very nice for their price, with a decent solid top.

i'll have to dissagree whith that, i've played a martin, gibson, and tacoma, and of course my fender DG-7

the dg was just as good, if not better, than the others
