I wish to change my pick guard on my Amer. Standard Tele. It will be a genuine Fender replacement part, my concern is with the pup adjustment screws. I have not worked with these screws and do not know much about them. When replacing the pick guard, removing them will be required. Is there anything I should know, tips, regarding removing these screws and then re-inserting them and re-adjusting them that would serve me beforehand. All informed assistance will be very welcome. :D

Measure your pu'p height on both sides beforehand is a good start. inside the pick guard you'll either see springs over the pu'p screws, or rubber. just carefully back the screws out, and if rubber, try to hold them still to avoid tearing, especially if they are old, in which case should then be replaced. when installing back on, put the screws into the pick guard all the way, slide the rubbers or springs back on the screws. then just slowly tighten back up. Adjust back to your measurements.

Bit of masking tape on the pickup covers will help you to set the heights the same, assuming the new pickguard is the same thickness as the old one.

Oh, and watch out for springs flying off and rolling under tables when you dismantle the guitar!

Thank you all. The video was great and made me glad that it is a Tele that I am working with. :D I'll take the opportunity to fine tune that first pup. Never played with it, but it seems to me it could use a little fine tuning.

Don't put the screws in your mouth, there have been instances where people have been known to swallow a few, every time yo see a pickguard missing screws, that's what happened.

Hi Modwiz. You may find this YTV useful as it demonstrates removing a pick guard on a Tele.

    Cheers!

Another great video. Thanks. Lots of useful tips about 21 vs.22 frets and adjustable pup screws and no screws. Don't need to remove strings with the latter. :D

If you get a chance, it would be fun to see some Before / After pics of your Tele. :)

    Cheers!

That can be arranged. Still haven't pulled the plug. I like the Black Pearl over the Black Pearloid. The Black Pearl is a little louder. I will get my new abalone knobs in a day or two. That will help me decide which pup guard to choose. I think the black pearl might work. The very gray scale of the pearloid makes it work easier, but it seems kind of dead to me.

The Black Pearl is also an Genuine Fender part.

About 2 or 3 months ago I got a couple of new pickguards for my 50th Ann. Strat and my MIM Tele. The basic changeover was pretty simple however keeping the springs from springing away from me was the most tedious and frustrating part of the whole process. So keep a very close eye on the springs.

BTW: I got the guards from: http://www.greasygroove.com they have an incredible number of guards and other guitar oriented paraphernalia. They have quite literally hundreds,or even thousands of pickguard patterns and types and will even make up custom orders from your own templates and graphics. They are incredible and are bassed in Nova Scotia,Canada.

Thanks. The second instructional video was by greasy groove. Very helpful video. I will stay with a Fender pup guard. For now. :D
