Gettin back into guitar playin , bought a Strat, amp and misc chord books etc.
Trying to figure out best way to organize the process of learning all over again.
Using a laptop to gather utube tracks and print what music I can find but can't seem to find a "low cost" way to get sheet music to download or print.
Either I can't find a source or it doesn't exist, but I am hopeful someone can clear up this mystery for me. Where does everyone else get their music?
Thanks

I think that a good way "low cost" is buy a good music book and play continuously.
There are many books "low cost" but they are excellent ;)

I think I can clear up the mystery. Most (or all) of the music you are looking for is copyrighted. That means you must buy it from a legitimate source, or turn to a life of crime. The sheet music sources that aren't "low cost" are most likely legitimate sources. The websites you're looking for where you can get sheet music dirt cheap because it 'fell off the back of a truck' are probably squashed pretty quickly by lawsuits. I hope this helps.

There are several book series that are loaded with hundreds upon hundreds of tabs. They are commonly known as "Fake" books. Often they are not complete transcriptions but give you a basic idea of the right chords anyway. Hal Leonard's Guitar Tab White Pages series are very popular guitar song collections. They come in four volumes plus a few specific genre editions. The Hal Leonard books have about 1,000 pages of tabs of popular songs from lots of different genres and at about $22 each on Amazon. That is not all that expensive at all for what you get, which is a book about as thick as a medium sized city's phone directory and printed on paper of about that same quality as a phone directory. One thing I don't like about them is the fact that they won't stay open to the page you want to work from. The price is right though and they are loaded with hit songs in the original key.

Speaking from experience with free tab sites, some are close to being accurate transcriptions but most are way, way off. It is always better to have the right chords.

On the other hand, sometimes even store bought sheet music singles it won't be right either! The Rita Coolidge arrangement of "Higher & Higher" (has her photo on the cover) does not have the key change step-ups in it, so I had to we-write my own chart for it to fit the recording as we had a female vocalist at the time who wanted to do it exactly like the recording. It was only a half-step up for each change but it changed like 4 times or something like that. That one was especially disappointing but I've found lots of store bought singles sheet music of popular hit songs that are only semi-correct but have left out changes, solos and stuff like that. So sometimes even if you have the "official" sheet music you wind up having to figure missing stuff out from the recordings. Lots of times they simplify or dumb-down the arrangements.

(I always wondered about a life of crime)
Kinda figured that was gonna be the reality of it. When I write lots of music it'll be free for everyone! Probly no one will want it tho  I was surprised to see prices on ebay and craigslist were not significantly lower. The search continues :|
