My band has been struggling to come up with a name. They have been together for a long time and I'm the new guy. I came up with a very cool name but the drummer who is kind of the man in charge doesn't think anything of it. The rest of the band members love the name (that's 4:1), but I have this feeling that the drummer wants to name the band himself, and I'm cool with that as long as he comes up with a cool name. So far his ideas are incredibly generic. Is this band drama lite? LOL!

Should we do some sort of coup de'tat and pretty much tell him to suck it up, majority rules?

bob dog, pocket rocket, stupid head face ......

I shoud add Castrated Armadillo to that list. Sorry SA haaha!

If you don't already have one then....deconstruct the band and go your merry way!

Unfortunately the best band name to ever put on a flyer was taken in the early 80s:

FREE BEER

One of the names I have been considering using for my next band will use a couple of common English surnames in this province,Dover and Butt. I hope to call my band The Ben Dover and Seymour Butt Experience, just repeat it to yourself a few times if you don't catch on to it right away.

BTW Free Beer was also the name of a popular duo in Newfoundland about 30 years ago and the two guys went on to find fame on their own,one-Chris Elliott- as a comedic solo entertainer and the other-Kevin Blackmore- as the leader of a famous Newfoundland folk/comedy act called "Buddy Wasisname and the Other Fellers".

BTW: Pinkerton's Assorted Colours was a group made up of the ex-members of the one-hit British group The Flying Machine who had a mega-hit with the beautiful "Smile A Little Smile" (For Me Rosemarie).

I'm great at thinking of cool band names. What I'm not good at is finding a drummer, bassist, and vocalist to, you know, form the band. :|

You never mentioned the reason why he is "the man in charge"...

Is the the primary songwriter?
Does he own your practice facility? Did he "get the band together"?
Is he the primary frontman/singer?
(Yes, it's rare for a drummer, but don't forget Doyle Bramhall I, Don Henley, Buddy Rich)

If the guy won't budge, and you want to stay with the other four guys, maybe he needs to move forward.

Never knew there was a Newfoundland band called Free Beer too, but the one out of Northern California featured some pretty good skateboarders, including a young Tommy Guerrero (he's the little kid in the vid) who went on to be a top early pro street skater. He's also the dude shredding the bass lines in this song, which appeared on the second Thrasher skate rock compilation, "Blazing Wheels and Barking Trucks," released in 1984.
