All great ideas! I think it's best to just ride the wave and hopefully a name will pop up just like the story above.

I got a story too.......

We use the name Fox Fire and I think it's used by alot of bands, but we really didn't put much thought into it.

Back in '87 our front man had just got divorced and had been in a band with his former wife and MIL, called Pure Velvet. Five of us from three different bands formed a new band and played a few gigs under that name, but it just wasn't working for us.

Three of our members of this new band were from a rock group originally called Shawdow Faxx and later shortened to Faxx. They had two big lighted signs with the letter "F" that they sat on each side of the stage. They still looked pretty good so someone asked, "We can still use those signs, so whats a name with two "F's"? I believe it was our drummer who blurted out Fox Fire......and that's the name we still use today with our re-united band. Not really much of a name, but it worked well for several years back then and still works well for us today.

The original Fox Fire members. I believe this picture was taken in 1992. I'm the second from the left.

I was actually online looking at advice for coming up with a company name today... need something catchy to start marketing my pedalboard designs with. I used the band name generator and came up with a few i like... Above Aluminum, Aluminum Overboard, and while it's not in the running for use, Aluminum Vulva made me laugh.

That photo is awesome. I'm betting the guy in the front is the bass player.

Nope......in order left to right......drums, bass, guitar, guitar, keyboards.
We all sang harmony parts and the drummer did a few lead vocals, but the keyboard player only did harmonies.
The 2 guitar players (they share lead and rhythm parts) and I (bass player) did 95% of the lead vocals back then and the guitar player with the short black beard was/is our front man and performed the lead vocals on about half of those.
The drummer we use today (not in the original picture) replaced the original drummer after about 7 years and played with us for a year or two back then. He does quite a few lead vocals as well. We all still do harmony parts and our front man still does more lead vocals than anyone else.
The keyboard player doesn't play live gigs anymore due to health reasons. Sure miss him.

Here's a few pics of the re-united Fox Fire from a gig a few weeks ago.

I've always felt an ideal, yet catchy, name for a band would be Crap. ;)

Whatcha ya listening to...?? Crap

Who ya gonna go see...?? Crap

Who're those guys...?? Crap

Those guys are Crap

Or, maybe just let the Drummer decide...

cheers!

That's funny, because I thought about have the name "$@!&" for a band name, essentially that same thing, but yours won't get bleeped out on this page.

It's interesting to note that back in the day, most bands used "The" in front of the names (i.e. The Dave Clark 5, The Animals, The Moody Blues, etc) - so as a trivia question - what band was the first to drop the "The" ???

Zep?

Pinkerton's Assorted Colours- or Hedgehoppers Anonymous , both 1965 but the prize probably goes to No one (pun intended) with Herman's Hermits 1963
