So I have a top notch Fender.
I am currently playing through an FM 25.
As noted on other threads, this inexpensive
amp does an ok job.

Now, the recent thread on Tube or SS convinced
me of saving for either a Princeton Reverb or a Junior Pro.

And just today, I came across an oportunity.
Fender Frontman 65, used, in excellent condition.
$200 dollars.
I just had 2 minutes to spare, couldn´t test-drive it.
I gather it holds a 12" speaker, saw the switch pedal.

Should I put on hold my tube amp project and get
this discontinued amp? I have that burning feeling!
In my part of the world, equipment is so expensive and
hard to come by...
And now I see myself making up all kinds of rational
arguments to go for it, you know how that goes. :P

My advise is to save your money and buy a Princeton Reverb re-issue. Or some such.

Why not save your dough, hold your GAS in, and scour your local CL and find an original. If you are patient, and keep that capital at hand, you will find your REAL DEAL!

GAS is a given. You will always have GAS. It never leaves you alone. The key to successful gear aquisition is to maintain control over your GAS and refrain from buying the first thing that pops up. Stick to a plan and buy only good gear.

Rule to live by: A small amount of quality gear is zillions of times better than a huge amount of cheap gear.

Seems like you'd be paying about as much as that amp went for brand new.

Too much!

Indeed!

A "small" amount......

If it's worth having, it's worth waiting for.

Those Frontman 65R's originally sold for $200.00 brand new when they were out on the market a couple of years ago. They're not bad amps and if you really do want it, depending on the condition , I would see if the seller is willing to negotiate on the price and see if he would bring it down to say $ 125-$150.00 tops. If not, go to Guitar Center's website www.GuitarCenter.com and click on the used gear section and click on amps. At the top of it, type in Fender Frontman . I've seen some of the FM 65's going for around the $100.00 mark .

Sincerely hoping you held off. Tube guitar amps are worth it.

I'm not sure the Princeton Reverb is a good gigging amp. It is sort of low power for gigging, but it is a fantastic recording amp. Maybe a Deluxe Reverb would be a better choice or a Hot Rod.

If you want a tube amp just wait. Don't waste your money on something you will regret buying.

+1 Brother Dave, Arjay, Arnold, and the rest are correct. Wait and find a good amp, a Deluxe Reverb would be just about perfect...The Princeton isn't loud enough for gigs.

Anything worth having is worth waiting for...

Brother, you need a hoarder's intervention... I'll be willing to take one of those
black with silver boxes you got there off your hands...
