Anyone know anything about it? My band use Shure Prologue H12 microphones. We've loads of them kicking around, I think we got a job lot, cheap years ago.
Anyway, testing them yesterday, some are very quiet. Regardless of impedance rating. Both HI Z and LO Z are sounding equally as quiet (2 HI Z 1 LO Z).

Of the mic's that are working well there are LO and HI Z. So I'm pretty sure impedance isn't the cause of volume loss.

I know this isn't the best place to ask. But someone may see it that knows about this stuff and can point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

You can DL PDF here http://cdn.shure.com/user_guide/upload/1296/us_pro_prologue12_ug.pdf.

Find one good lead and test each using that. mount each mic in turn on a stand 4- 6 in. from speaker playing test tone.
You'll need a good multimeter with 0-1mv range
And a test tone http://www.audiocheck.net/audiofrequencysignalgenerator_sinetone.php set volume to get a good reading on the meter for output (within specs)

Label each mic that passes the test.
The rest will need stripping to check integrity of wiring, soldering, switch and function of cartridge. Again label each one to identify later. Check the cartridge first by connecting your meter directly to the wires coming from it. Check output as above, then set meter to Ohms and check impedance. Still with meter set for ohms check continuity of wiring ,XLR pins and ground, switch at both positions.

Re-solder any dry joints and set aside any faulty component- unless they all have a common fault you may be able to put together some that are good.

I have heard of people fitting sm58 cartridge to cheaper models, but doubt it is worth it these days as there are so many excellent budget mikes out there - Red 5, Samson etc etc etc. also current economic climate means therea re some great deals around
