The whole town of Wabush has now been evacuated except for the Fire Department, essential town council employees and my oldest daughter's boyfriend who is overseeing the water bombing as he is the Director of The Department of Forestry for the area.Consequently both of my daughters have to stay on too, that is unless it becomes too dangerous even for them to stay.

Both my daughters and other crews were going around the town today and yesterday until 4 this morning knocking on every door of the community to ensure that every house was empty. It's unbelievable but there were some idiots who stayed on and got downright belligerent and verbally abusive telling them to GFY and to get off their effin property etc. They can't remove them so they have no choice but leave them there. They estimate that all told there are only 79 people left in the town of almost 2,000 with most of them going to neighbouring Labrador City or Nearby Fermont Quebec. Anyway the fire is now about 10 miles long by 5.5 miles wide and is about a mile from the town, really scary stuff. If you Google Wabush Fire you'll see some incredible shoots that show the enormity of the blaze. There are light showers forecast for tomorrow but they need a couple of days of torrential downpours because fires like this can burn for days under the layers of peat moss that blanket the forest floor.

Hard to imagine, the feeling of being alone
in town in such a situation.
Hope things turn out allright and with miminal
damage to Wabush.

Thanks Mike 07502,the forecast in the Wabush area for tomorrow calls for rain showers sometime in the afternoon. What they really need is a couple of days of torrential downpours because the peat moss layers under the forest floors can burn undetected for several days and then suddenly spring into life again with a vengeance and rapidly spread again.A few light showers on a fire of this magnitude makes just about as much difference as taking a leak on a bonfire would.

My daughter and the other female Firefighter are doing watch at the fire station tonight because the other firefighters have been just running on adrenalin and going without sleep for 2 or 3 days.So the girls told them to go home and rest because they managed to get 4 or 5 hours sleep after they finished canvasing houses 4:00 this morning.
