Neil usually plays out of an old 5e3 Tweed Deluxe.

From what I've read, he had a quite large collection of old 5e3 tweeds, but he has one in particular that he mainly uses. Not sure where I either read it, or maybe saw an interview with his guitar tech that one of those amps just really kicks $@! compared to the rest.

His 5E3's run 6L6GCs and have fans blowing on the trannys to keep them from melting.

He also has a gizmo called the "Whizzer" that is used to control the amp setings:

I remember reading something about Neil's Fender "stacks" some time ago and I can't quite remember if they contained speakers or not.I can's even remember which guitar oriented magazine that it was in.

Years ago in one of the bands that I played in,the rhythm guitarist was a fair bit younger than the rest of us and he had an empty Traynor 2-12 0r 2-15 cabinet that he insisted on putting up on stage-or else he'd pout during the whole gig-because he figured it looked good.In the meantime I had the smallest amp-A Traynor Mk. III- that was the loudest,I was into volume instead of vanity.

Just watched Boston 2012 gig on you tube and wondered whether the stacks were just props or working PA.

If they were working, can you imagine the size of the roadies that it would take to schelp these things? Oy!

And that RCA 77DX microphone is equally huge!

Pretty sure all this stuff is non-functional otherwise you'd need a crane to move it, not to mention an operating permit from the Department Of Energy just to turn it on.

Also confirms here that the real amps are inside the giant dummies.

yeah- the wall of sound 8)

somewhere around the house is a mailing the dead sent me 40some years ago describing the entire system, with a diagram showing what each speaker was used for.

think about bill kreutzman. sitting at the drums under that big unit in the middle. talk about trust....

I always thought Neil Young was at his best with a Gretsch White Falcon and a blackface Fender, or a Martin D-45......

Hey Arjay....will this work for ya?

I dig Neil in all incarnations, wether solo, Buffalo Springfield, or Crazy Horse...But I dig it most when it's CSNY!

I just saw a sweet White Falcon in GC on the used wall....still too rich for my blood, but I would sure love to have one.
