Just watched Boston 2012 gig on you tube and wondered whether the stacks were just props or working PA.

Even the old 40W tweed twins Neil played were weapons of mass destruction. :!:

I attended the last U.S.performance of "Tommy" more years ago than I'd like to remember. It was at the Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center, NYC. I dubbed that night, 'the night the Met lost her cherry." The grass was never greener. Anyhow...I digress. There was a wall of Marshalls behind those guys the likes of which I had never seen before and I could tell, for the life of me, whether they were prop, or the real deal.

Often, I believe props are used, especially for those ridiculous walls of Marshalls. Who in the hell is going to have a 10 or 20 100 watt stacks going? That would be insane.

I know for a fact that the half the double head Marshall stacks used by the band (The Wasps) I did backline for circa 78 were empty except for power switch lamps

even if Yngwie would have you believe otherwise

Ah yes, I remember reading about that Grateful Dead system. I thought that was pretty cool. Yeah, I forgot about the earlier days before massive PA systems, you needed lots of stacks back then. I'll bet the massive stacks you'd see from those metal bands from the 80's were probably props, though.
