Yea, so I fell out of love with my Telecaster, so I've been trying to unload it for a bit now. (after a few weeks of thought going into it.)

I was just browsing CL when I came across an ad for a Duo Sonic for $495 (Trades considered)

I guess I may trade my Telecaster for a Duo Sonic, which is good, considering I haven't played it in months because Guild.

I don't know which Duo-Sonic this is. There are several versions. I've had two. I had a CBS era USA one with slide switches and an FMIC era MIM one with a single toggle that was more like the Pre-CBS Fender Duo-Sonic control setup. Both designs had one volume and one tone. I LOVED the way they play. They just chord so easy and are simple to setup due to the short scale. I preferred the MIM one with the toggle setup as it was much more user friendly. Slide switches are harder to maintain requiring DEOXIT shots at about every string change. I really didn't want to sell the MIM one but there was a candy apple red Strat I wanted more at the time. Squier has a Duo-Sonic version out now. I wish Ensenada still made the toggle switched version they were making back in the early to mid 90's.

I would not hesitate on a toggle switch Duo-Sonic one minute if everything is ok with it. I'd be less inclined to jump on a CBS slide switch version.

I really don't think the MIM version is worth $495. $250 to $275 maybe. There are lots of those MIM's on eBay that are overpriced and not selling. I do not think the Squier version is available in the USA and that is what is driving up prices on the MIM 90's models. Since the Squier version is not available in the USA people are wanting what they can't have. I think I paid under $175 for both my Duo-Sonics, but that was in 1980 and 1999. They are the easiest guitars to play I've ever owned, but also are the only short scale guitars I've owned. Maybe all shorties play that easy. I've tried Mustangs and Musicmasters and to me the Duo-Sonic was just more FUN. It is a fun little guitar.

Yes, its the mim.

I just don't play my telecaster anymore. I don't want to kill the guild, so I need another guitar that I enjoy.

This has those crappy hex back tuners, whick I guess I'll switch with klusons when money allows (if I get it)

That isn't worth $495.00 , especially if it has those trapezoid tuners on it. I wouldn't bother. Why don't you just sell your Telecaster for a reasonable price if you're not happy with it and use the money to get something you know you'll end up enjoying ?

Are you saying that by trading a guitar I don't enjoy anymore for a guitar that I will enjoy I'll end up dissatisfied?

Do you think I'm #$@*&!% stupid? Honestly?

I'm not paying $495 out of pocket. I just quoted the ad. He said not to hesitate to make a trade offer, so that's what I did. Trust me when I say that I'm sick of having a guitsr I haven't touched in 3 months lying around.
