So I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I didn't see any tips and tricks area to post it in. I've seen this technique used a couple times, but I'm not real sure how to do it, what's it called, or it's entire effect. From what I can tell there is an increased sustained while doing this but again I don't really know. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what this technique is called, what it achieves, and how I ca learn it?

The video can be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-e5cB-WbcE8
And the technique is shown in 3:44-3:50 in the timeline.

Any help is appreciated

Thanks,

Are you talking about the part that kind of sounds like what is happening here at 10:22 just before Angus takes all his clothes off?

well 1st he is tapping the guitar while holding a note to create more vibration for sustain,
then does a pick slide up the neck.

Ok. The tapping for sustain is what I'm referring to. Is there a specific way do this? I would like to learn how, but I can't find any tutorials on it. I also don't want to experiment with my guitar to much trying to figure it out because I would hate if I damaged it.

Do you know of any tutorials or even what this technique is called so I can learn it.

Unless youre the Karate Kid ( and he played some mean blues) the heel of your palm won't damage your guitars body

I get the feeling there is also some infinite delay going on there aswell, that can sound a bit like sustain too. Some people will have more than one of a particular pedal on their board in this example he may have more than one delay pedal and have one set to infinite delay at a low mix level, he engages that pedal to get the constant or elongated delay and then disengage that pedal as he starts to scrape the pick up the bass string.

I say it's possibly a delay pedal because it doesn't sound like one constant sound but comes across as a pulsing sound (as described above as possibly tapping on the strings).

Just another idea to be thrown into the mix. And as mentioned above you won't damage your guitar by eperimenting as long as you don't do something stupid like stick the guitar into a toaster (don't try that one it really is dangerous). :D
