Another celebrated blues singer has passed on. Bobby "Blue" Bland, who influenced many popular musicians and had a bunch of charted hits in rhythm and blues, died after a long illness at his home in Memphis. He was 83.

Some of his hits included "Further On Up The Road" (also known as "Farther Up The Road"), "Turn On Your Love Light", and "Yield Not (Unto Temptation)". My personal favorite was "With These Hands (Small But Mighty)"

You can hear what sounds like a boozy Eric Clapton cite Triple B. as the author of "Further On Up The Road" in the intro to his version on the live recording "E.C. Was Here".

Wow, he died? I didn't even know that. It hasn't been mention yet in any of my music news feeds. That sucks, I like his music, quite a bit. R.I.P. Bobby. :(

This is getting to be a regular occurrence,a lot of the performers who were idolized by the Baby Boomer generation are getting up there in years and we will keep on loosing some of our most beloved entertainers in regular succession for the next few years, which is a sad reality that we have to face. Bobby Blue Bland was a true giant of the music world and like all giants of his stature he leaves a huge empty space where he once stood. RIP Triple B.

His song Turn On Your Love Light has always been one of my Top 10 favorites, especially after it was released by the Human Beinz in 1967. I must have played that song over a thousand times through the years.

I've got Bobby's Greatest on CD, of course.

RIP Bobby, your music lives on!

Two Steps From The Blues (from '61) is my favorite blues album.
