Real dumb question, and I truly do apologize for making this thread, but it's my OCD.

The Dunlop Original Crybaby pedal comes with a clear plastic covering on the bottom of it. Is that supposed to be removed? Because it is sort of tucked "under" the rubber feet and the plastic 9V battery compartment, such that I can't seem to simply pull it off like the pickguard plastic cover that comes on new guitars and simply peels off. I could unscrew the feet and then take it off, I guess. Is that what people do, or do they simply leave the clear plastic on? It does not seem like it's meant to stay on, as it gets bubbles underneath it and such.

I'm new to pedals. In fact, I got this pedal in December of 2011 for free from a promotion that MF was running and I have only now decided to take it out of the box.

Thanks.

I don't remember that with mine, but that was a long time ago and I no longer have it. So you mean it's like the plastic that goes on the pickguard of some new guitars? I'd unscrew the feet and take it off either way, if it's thin like that, it's eventually going to start looking 'ratty'.

Thanks. It's actually a thicker plastic than what's put on pickguards and it does not seem like it's supposed to peel off like that (though it easily peels, but it's under the feet and battery compartment). I'm hearing from others that it is *not* meant to come off. It's really weird because it's not attractive, it bubbles, it seems like you would take it off, it is on top of words and makes them hazy. I was just wondering if other actual owners of this pedal had ever thought about or noticed this. In fact, it seems like it would be something one would peel off so I would think others would have done what I did and tried to peel it off only to learn that it's really "under" the feet so it doesn't come off. Of course, pickguard plastic is also *slightly* under the knobs but it's thin and easily comes off, as we know.

unscrew the feet and peel it off, will only look worse as time goes on.

If it's on the bottom... I'm afraid I'd disagree with peeling it off. Thicker plastic and the way it's applied would tell me it's meant to be there, bubbles or not. It's probably a laminate put there to absorb static. It's underneath, so who's going to see it anyway? Peeling it off might give you a noisy pedal.

FWIW I peeled mine off and did not notice any difference with and without.

    Cheers!

Well, I went downstairs to check mine... appears I peeled mine off too. I removed the feet in order to accommodate the fastening system I have on my board. I must have peeled it off when I did that.
I actually have a really old Cry Baby as well. Older pedals didn't have the battery compartment cap. You'd have to remove the entire bottom plate to change the battery... just FYI.
BTW... still a GREAT pedal 8)
