"only the good die young" is a Billy Joel lyric and with this man so true. I thought of him as a very good actor and enjoyed watching him work in every movie and television show I was lucky to see. Because of him and his role in The Soprano's, that show was so very popular, a comedy spoof of that show called The Soprano's Last Supper was started. I auditioned for it ( I did my audition monologue in Italian and was hired before I left the casting directors office, lol) got the part and for 3 and a half years had more fun than a human being should be allowed to have. For dinner theater the pay was great. Thank you James Gandolfini. Because your viewing audience loved you so much, it made acting like you easy for us, our audiences always had a good time. I miss you now and I know millions of others will miss you too. Rest in peace little Brother. 8)

Sad. I had a stent placed at the age of 54. My dad passed away at that age when I was 13.....57 years ago. I always had reservations about Gandolfini's health just looking at him.

Say what you will about the final episode but the sopranos was genius. Sad day.

Good actor.
Loved him on the Sopranos.
He also had a great part as Bear in Get Shorty.
Too young.

To quote James Douglas "Jim" Morrison: " No One Gets Out Alive..."

I LOVED James Gandolfini in the Sopranos !!

He truly deserved an Emmy for that work (which I believe he was awarded).

With regard to his other work, I've always considered him to be the Thespian equivalent of the proverbial One Hit Wonder...

Still... I feel for his family and am sorrowed by his passing... R.I.P.

cheers !

I've never seen "The Sopranos" and frankly, nothing that Mr. Gandolfini ever did had any impact on my life whatsoever. But of course it's tragic that he passed at such an early age where clearly he had many more stage and screen roles to play.

However, I am mourning the passing today of author Vince Flynn who had seventeen novels on the New York Times bestseller list during his brief time on this planet. Like Gandolfini, Mr. Vince was also relatively young (47) and his prosaic output of techno-thriller prose is a record matched by few writers.

RIP, Vince

I never saw any of his film work but his work in the Sopranos was brilliant. I was devastated when that show ended.

He was a perfect Tony Soprano.

For those of you that haven't seen it, rent "True Romance." It is NOT a love story. James plays a very wicked hit man. Great movie besides.

Rest easy, JG :(

Yep. In fact, he's done a lot of stuff - a much longer list on IMDB than I'd realised. I liked him in In The Loop.

I was surprised to discover he was so young. Great shape as an actor - not such good shape physically. It turns out.

BTW Doc, my dad just had stents numbers 13 and 14 on Monday, and strolled out feeling fine a couple of hours later. Remarkable stuff. Apparently the world record is still held by Mother Teresa (if you please), at 19 stents.

I always enjoyed Mr. Gandolfini. Nobody played twisted or angry better. Nobody. "The Sopranos" was the best drama series ever on television but not just because of him. I thought he was good in "Zero Dark Thirty" and was hoping for more roles like that. He played a similar character in the Brit comedy film "In The Loop" which I watched on Netflix a few weeks ago. He was getting roles completely different from Tony Soprano, so he wasn't really all that typecast like some other Soprano cast members. But he was not getting much comedy work as in "In The Loop." Apart from his landmark lead as Tony Soprano, he was perhaps one the most convincing character actors ever. I think one of his better character roles was in the film "Crimson Tide." I heard he was shocked when he got the Tony Soprano role. He never expected it.

This is a very sad loss imo, a fantastic actor in almost everything he did, obviously particularly as Tony Soprano, a part he just made his own SO much, wonderful stuff. Him and Edie Falco, wow, what acting ...

He will be sorely missed, far too young, RIP James ...
