If you don't know what I'm talking about, John Lennon, instead of barring the whole fret, only barred the B and high E strings. Do you prefer this or normal bar chords?

I think Keith Richards does that too. Anything Beatles is gold.

Anything? Agree to disagree.

I do that a lot. My main goal is to get the chords down to as few notes as possible, and move my left hand as little as possible. If I can find a way to play several chords all in the same position, I usually go with that.

It also depends on the situation, if I were playing solo guitar I'd include a lot more notes, so might end up playing some full chords.

If I'm trying to play a Steely Dan song, I keep it to 3 note chords, played on the G, B, and E strings only (for the most part). Listen to 'Peg', all the chords can be played that way:

John's "Girl" is a great example of "partial chords" while George is doing the lead break John does the B&E 2 string thing that makes it sound like he's playing mandolin.Girl is for sure one Beatle song that qualifies as gold-even something more precious,he always identified it as being one of his best songs and I'm sure that a large number fanatics concur.

From what I read, he learned banjo chords form his mother and transposed that to guitar. He didn't even utilize his low E string, at first. I wonder how he actually did that?

Tommy Tedesco, who used to have a great column in GP magazine (when it was worth buying) had a great story on this
and tri note chording with inversions.
