I had a question to put out there concerning where the artist series basses are manufactured,,,, I own a black on black Tony Franklin Fretless Artist series bass and I must say it is the best bass I own, the build quality is fantastic, now saying that I have read other owners reviews that mostly agree, there are exceptions but for the most part really good feedback,, I also own a American Standard V Precision, both basses are 2012 s and are built fantastic, so getting to the question where would the TF artist been built ? On a reg production line? Or where, I have also read the Tony Franklin's were built buy the Custom shop. Can anyone clear this up for me? Thanks.

The TF basses are mass production instruments coming off the same line as other USA production instruments. The Franklin is not made in the Custom Shop. If it was it would have the Custom Shop hallmark on the headstock reverse. However, Fender Artist Series basses do come from every mass production line where Fender Basses are made so far except China. Corona, Ensenada and Fujigen's Matsumoku plants all make at least one Artist Series instrument. China not being on the list may change sooner than you might be thinking.

Fender is moving into China in a BIG way. It makes perfect sense as this is potentially an even larger market than FMIC's largest current customer base in their home North American territory. You can not ignore it.

Last October FMIC, announced they were opening a new office in Beijing, which will accommodate a team of Fender employees dedicated to branding and marketing. This is the FIRST time FMIC has opened any office outside North America! Demand for anything to do with western culture and music is exploding in China and Fender is there.

FMIC has also announced the establishment of a newly formed third-party distribution company authorized and dedicated to selling only FMIC products in China. Named “FAST Distribution” and based in a new office and showroom space in Guangzhou, this new distribution team will be focused on FMIC brands. Team members will include trained sales representatives dedicated to visiting and assisting PRC retailers. Product support/Consumer Relations will be operated by Fast at the Guangzhou complex for FMIC brand products. A showroom featuring FMIC brands and products for dealer training, group meetings and FMIC events is another part of the Guangzhou complex too.

So I'd expect more and more Chinese made Fenders to show up in FMIC product offerings if I were you. China's population is over 1,344,000,000 . Japan's population is 128,057,352, or less than a tenth of China's. China has roughly one-quarter of the world's population and a burgeoning manufacturing sector. That is a market FMIC is aggressively going after. Also shipping routes are well established and it is very economical to ship from China right now.

@brotherdave

Fender was already present in China before opening their offices there.

Several Squier instruments are MIC.

Thanks BrotherDave, very interesting, makes sense the China market is huge that will be good for Fender share owners. I was just wondering like I had mentioned the build quality on my Franklin and the AMS V is fantastic. I take it they were built in Corona?
