Now exactly what would a garment created by an extraterrestrial civilization look like? Not something of Earth, I would expect. I'm nearly twenty years your senior in the comics and scific department. You have to think out of the box on this stuff. Under a yellow sun, he's deemed indestructable. In the presence of kryptonite, he is not, and his garments might just be that....armor. You can play with this a gazillion ways and, for years, the publishers, and artists did that very thing...and are doing it again.

Maybe you're right, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. Plus they also did away with 75 plus years of history and continuity as well, just to they could make a few bucks. That means, everything which we read as younger readers, never happened . Plus they took all the books such as Action Comics, etc; and relaunched them with new No#1 issues, thus canceling the old run which was somewhere around the 800 mark or so which started in 1938.

ZZDoc , Here's Superman as I'll always remember him. Pencilled by John Byrne and inked by me.

That's excellent, but....not the Superman art from my childhood, let's say, 1947 to the inception of the Comics Code. Nor did the early cartoon character appear that muscular. Times change. What should never is the escapist fun...dark or light.

Ah yes, the late ,great , Wayne Boring who after Joe Shuster who was Superman's 1st artist , provided the template for the man of steel for many decades until his retirement in the mid 1960's. He started drawing Superman in the early 1940's as a ghost artist for Joe Shuster whose vision was going on him. Jack Burnley was another artist who did some of the early 1940's work as well, but it was Boring who did the majority of the work until he retired. I have several issues of Action Comics , Superman, and World's Finest dating back to 1942 in my collection.

Well...just returned from seeing the motion picture and the best I can offer you with respect to the 'armor' discussion is that given Jor-El, Zod, and Kal-El all seemed to be wearing the same version of Krypton's long underwear, each with their family crest on it. My supposition that it might be some kind of universal garment material appears to have some basis here.

Well, I'll wait until it comes out on In Demand before I see it. If Christopher Nolan wasn't involved in it , chances are it probably would've been more faithful to the source material. After all the director Zack Synder did what I consider to be the best Comic book to film adaption " The Watchmen ! " That is the best Comic book film ever made because it was 100% faithful to the material ! But it didn't do well at the box office because The watchmen weren't a nousehold name such as say Batman or Superman are. The Watchmen was a 12 issue mini series published by DC Comics back in 1986 ,which was very controversial for it's time. It was written by Alan Moore who also did V For Vendetta which was also adapted to film .

Not that I have any experience in comics, it seems the current form of superheroes tend to be more dark sided in character. Comparing batman movies in the 90's where it was very comic-y and very kid friendly..

I think a lot of today's comic books tend to reflect the trends in today's society . The Batman films from the 90's were kind of campy I guess , especially the one with George Clooney as batman. That one was pretty horrible and put a end to the franchise until it was bought back in 2005 with Batman Begins, which was directed by Christopher Nolan and not only renewed the franchise, but also renewed Christian Bale's career as well.
