That reminds me, I have to call my Dad. He just turned 81 last week and I called, but I have to relay messages through my Mom, since he can't hear on the phone. They're trying to get some sort of hearing aid thing through the V.A. (He's a Navy veteran with disability) but they've been waiting to hear back a long time. I guess probably because of government red tape, or some other antics. Who knows?

There are a few telecommunications devices your dad might could benefit from without a hearing aid. CAPTEL is one. Here in NC where I live the state provides Captel phones and other telecommunications devices and services free to hearing impaired people through the NC Dept of Health and Human Services. You don't have to be a veteran to get help here. A similar program may be available in the state where your father lives. You need to check on it. The Captel phones work great for people who don't want to wear a hearing aid or type on a keyboard either. Here's a link to a website with more info on Captel phones.
http://www.captel.com

Thanks for the info. I'll have to tell my Mom about this. I guess the reason they are dealing with the V.A. is maybe they can get some to of deal with it. I have no clue, otherwise. He should have done this a few years ago, but he's kind of stubborn, I guess. We live over 1000 miles apart, so I really don't get to see them too often. So it's usually regulated to phone calls.

Happy Fathers Day everyone (a day late)!!!

My gift was seeing my daughters play in their first piano recital (aged 5 and 7). They did great!!!

I'm proud of them and proud of myself for trying really hard (without, I hope, being too push) to get them into music and giving them an opportunity to have a career in music or at least be real musicians by the time they are my age. Piano lessons at age 5 and 7, violin, seeing me hack away at guitar, etc.

There was no music in my house growing up. My dad was a good dad but he's just not into music. He's all about baseball and other sports, which is what I did growing up.

Picked up a guitar at age 35. Now that I"m old, I can no longer play baseball. How great it would be to be like some of you guys and gals who started young and have been playing for 20, 30, whatever years.

As an aside, I love piano music too. Couple of great movies on Netflix right now if you're in a guitar rut and want a change of pace:

1. Pianomania, about Steinway's "lead tuner" who gets elite top of the top instruments ready for the best of the best classical performers. Lots of cool background behind the scenes stuff that I didn't know, like these top guys RENT a piano for a particular performance and they go to this special showroom and test drive them and work with Steinway's guy to tune them just right, etc.

2. "Note by NOte...Making of STeinway L1037"... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1149400/. Follows the yearlong process to make ONE STeinway concert grand piano. Really good movie. AFter watching this movie I had an "office space" moment where I swear I wanted to quit my office job and go work in the steinway factory making pianos (rather being one of a team of about 60 that goes into making a piano).

both these movies have really good info IMO and good music and good sound quality if you happen to have your TV/computer hooked up to a decent speaker system

Hello!

Greetings from Ruthie, Ella Mae, Sophie Belle and Julie Rose to their father for his celebration day!

Kudos from Greenwich Town for the closing finale of the past month's party featuring Derek Trucks and his wife!

That was a treat, Chromeface. Thanks!

Happy Father’s Day everyone.

I never made it to fatherhood, but I had a great one, and I am a Godfather. 8) No kissing my ring required. :P At least not today. Tomorrow? Well, maybe I’ll make an exception.
Aw, fugedaboutit.

Relax, and have a super day!
