i picked up an old peavey deuce last year and seeing as how i already have a mace i decided to give it to my nephew Darren who comes round for a guitar lesson most weekends , he was up last week with one of his epiphones so i stuck some irongear pups into it that were lying around and to test them out i fired up the old pv , man did it sing 8) so i told him to take it home with him , you should have seen his face  he was very happy to say the least  he was up yesterday and i asked him how he was liking the amp (he had a little marshall practice amp) he said he was loving it and what a sound with his metal muff , so the jobs a good un
and just for a wee change , i showed him how to play pistol slapper blues , rory gallagher style , yesterday he picked it up in no time and i'm sure he'll have it nailed for next week (wish someone would've shown me how to play it ) and for his next lesson it's onto slide for him , i was letting him hear the new resonator , nothin but the devil , it sounded great and he said he wouldn't mind learning some slide . i also let him hear some bob brozman , his jaw hit the floor  , just thought i'd share , cheers
Alan

Very nice, you've passed on more than an old amp indeed!

You are a great uncle indeed to have passed on a great sounding amp to your nephew. I love Peaveys. They're the only thing along with cockroaches, that could survive a nuclear bomb. That's how well built they are. I own a 1989 Bandit 112 Solo Series which is still going strong.

Got a '74 Peavey Century 200 head. Still does 100 watts! Pots need a spraying as there is some static in there now though. Still been a real good one! Can't vouch for the new Peavey stuff but the Meridian MS built amps are stellar. Have had four Peavey combos. One of them had to re-solder a speaker output point on the board, but otherwise no problems. Just amazing.

Hi Alan, back in 1976 I bought the first Peavey Deuce that was sold in our province and gigged with it the whole while I was gigging.Mine had the tremolo where the later models had phasers-which I thought sounded atrocious compared to the brilliant tremolo circuits. The Deuce has to be the best amp to ever come out of Meridian. The Deuce can go much louder than a Twin and stay clean at much higher volumes too.The only way I could get my Deuce to dirty up was to turn the Master way down and max the Channel volume,if not you'd have to turn it up loud enough to make your eardrums pop to dirty it up.Stupidly I sold my Deuce right after I bought my first Marshall,if I had my time back she would still be in my music room.If I ever see another First Edition Deuce for sale I'm going to get it even if it means having to sell a kidney, they are definitely one of the best amps not only made by Peavey but ever made period. Anyway I hope he really appreciates what an incredible amp he has. Then again a quick study such as he is certainly deserves to learn on the best of gear and he certainly has that now. He'll be thanking you for that for years to come.Cheers.

Hi guys , i just thought it better that it was getting used rather than sitting next to a mace which also isn't used all that often (but i did fire it up on friday night ) 8) i asked him what he'd had it turned up to , just under 1 he said  and his mum was going nuts :)
hi Derek , you'r right in what you say mate , one of the best amps ever made and headroom to die for , i told him to turn the gain down to about 4 then run his metal muff (or is it the germanium muff , can't remeber) through it , he says it sounds amazing so thats all that counts 8) , and i'm pretty sure he'll be using it for a long time to come , i've been talking to him about him getting a band together , i think he's more than ready , might just be the wee push he was needing  it's just a pitty i don't know anything by the bands he listens to but a good grounding in classic rock and blues will stand him in good stead methinks , cheers
Alan

+1!

It's easier to branch out and explore other genres once he has a solid grasp of the fundamentals.
