Ideally, I would just buy the Super Champ. From what I understand, it's never been used outside of a house, and it's in pretty mint condition for being 31 years old. I did some research recently and found out it was made in 1982. It has this speaker in it: http://www.superchamp.dk/speakers/EVforce10.htm which I though was interesting. I never cranked the clean channel to overdrive, but have used the dirty channel on full effect. How much do you think these amps go for?

This is just in case I'm unable to obtain the SC, or I might want to keep it as studio amp. I suppose it couldn't hurt to gig with it, if I owned it though. I'm thinking budget wise, at least under $1000 to $800 or less, since AMS has monthly payment plans, which we did use to get the Passport 500. That's really handy, if you got plastic. I noticed those Blues Deluxe and Hot Rod amps around that price range. How are those amps? There is also the remake of the Super Champ and the Blues and Pro Junior, if they are comparable. The price on those is pretty good, too. There is also that Deluxe VM with the built in effects, which is handy since I do use chorus sometimes. And also mentioned, the Mustang. But, I'm kind of a lazy bastard, so long as I don't have to spend a lot of time programming stuff and scrolling menus. That's why I never got into rack effects. I usually like it simple. See box with button; push button; get noise from box; spend a shitload of scratch on batteries. :P

Peavey is an idea (those old ones are indestructible, I used to have a few,) but I'm kind of hoping to match my bass amp as well as our practice PA. I'm kind of nerdy like that. That's why I've been leaning towards another Fender amp. Plus, I like the sound and aesthetic of them.

The vintage Super Champs still command a respectable price on Ebay -- most go for eight bills and up, contingent upon condition. You'll find nothing made by FMIC today (or most other major companies) that will compare to the '80s-era Super Champ in terms of durability, dependability, or reliability. Likely the reason they remain in such high demand.

That's good to know. Hopefully, I'll be able to hold on to it in the long run. Do you think it'll be OK to gig with? I'd like to keep this amp in good shape, but then again I take care of my gear and I definitely watch my stuff like a hawk any time I've played shows. I know it's not a million dollar vintage collector's piece, but I'd hate for something to happen to it.

Unless you're playing the Fillmore or some outdoor arena, that Super Champ will do fine. Treat it respectfully, service it at regular intervals, and it'll deliver the bacon for decades to come.

If you're lucky and it breaks down under warranty, you get a shiny new one.
That's if you're lucky though.

Gee, they sure don't make them like they use to. :P I'm only 41 years old and I'd never imagine I'd say that when I was younger, but it's true. What's next? I'm going to have to start waving a cane and yelling "you damn kids get off my lawn!!!" But then I realize it's just the yard gnomes.

No they don't.

Why do you think I'm still driving a one-owner Nissan 4x4 from 1986 and wearing the same Rolex my wife gave me for Christmas in 1988 or carrying the same Colt pistol I bought in 1985?

I have to agree there, thats why I traded the last of my modern amps a while back. Newest amp I own now is a 1971 Super Reverb.

Can't say I blame you there. I once bought a Black and Decker coffee maker and it lasted only two weeks! But then again, I have some no name brand coffee maker that I paid 7 bucks for and it's been going strong for 6 years. Go figure.

Heck, you have to work just to find quality Made-In-USA handtools anymore!

Indeed I have.

When I wanted a bench vise for my birthday a few years back, that's where my wife found it. Now that site is one of my primary shopping venues, usually my first stop.

Yeah, they have all kinds of stuff on there. It's sad that a lot of businesses have either been outsourced, or gone under all together.
