I had to shake up the pedalboard, but instead of just removing this pedal:

For this pedal:

I thought I would add something to save room on-stage.

The MXR M66 Classic Overdrive was/is a great pedal, but it was basically just a variation of an Ibanez TS9...and I already have one of those on the board. The M69 Prime Distortion is a lot grittier, nastier and heavier, so I have a bit more tonal flexibility.

Here's what the Big Ol' Board of Sonic Delight looked like:

First, I had to clean up this mess:

After a quick vacuum, I had to install this:

I removed this from a soon-to-be-discarded podium at my job. It had a flexible gooseneck and mic attached (the mic was salvaged as well, but that's another story). So after a few holes drilled, some basic hardware and a repositioning of pedals, this was what it looked like:

But part of my reason for doing all this was to have a mic stand that would fit in my big gig case (a Pelican case). All the mic stands I found were too long and wouldn't fit in the case, necessitating carrying one more thing--albeit a light-weight item--into the venue. Also, even the smallest mic stand bases are at least 9"-12" across, so that's one more square foot gained on-stage.
I brainstormed with a friend of mine, and this is what he came up with:

Yes, that is an extender stick for a paint roller. :?
He attached a plate to the bottom of the stick, drilled and tapped out some threads and re-tapped the threads on the other end to facilitate a mic holder.
After installation, it looks like this:

...and it works like this (click on pic to play video):

The grit you hear on the guitar is the new MXR M69 Prime Distortion pedal.
The mic pole fits perfectly with all my other accessories in the Pelican case...

...under the pedalboard...

...and I'm ready to gig!

I'll pass the kudos on to my friend--he did all the heavy thinking.

He's not a musician at all, and I think that helped him. His thought pattern went a little wider because he's not stuck in "Musician Mode"

Man, that's a lot of pedals. I'd get cramps in my leg just from going back and forth with all the switching. LOL. That's why I use a Digitech RP effects processor. Much easier at my age ( 54 ).

Yeah, it's a lot...for several years, I was the fill-in-the-blanks guy in a couple of different bands. I had to create a place for myself that counter-pointed the other guitarist(s), and did that with different sounds/effects as much as what I played. When I finally started leading my own band, I went ahead and kept all the boxes, so I could keep making the different textures, etc.

...and as many pedals as there are residing at my feet, my tone/sound/whatever is very organic and un-processed.

Also, several of those pedals were gifts from the esteemed Lady Armadillo, so there's a sentimental angle as well...and I have enough extras on a shelf to populate a second smaller board. Hmm...

Truth be known, I could probably just stick with three or four pedals and be happy...but if ya got 'em, use 'em!

I love that pedal...whatever you're pushing (sound-wise), it pumps it out that much harder.

It's a "more of me" pedal; doesn't change the sound/tone, it just accentuates what's already there.

I've been jamming with the new MXR M69 Prime Distortion all week, and I think we have a winner...

Harder than an overdrive but not into the "Metal Zone"...great crunchy ZZ Top territory, even with single coils.

Next test will be a full band jam, to make sure it doesn't get lost in the mix.

Nice board!!

I now have so many pedals (and very little power) I'm going to make separate mono and stereo pedalboards. Will tackle this project as soon as the condo renovation is completed.

I expect to have an electric 12-string by then, too.
